A former rival of Alex Pereira has assessed where things fell apart for Magomed Ankalaev on UFC 320.
Pereira had something to prove last Saturday and he carried out his plan with flag and pennant. After having lost the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship to Ankalaev in March, Pereira wanted to show the MMA world that he did not enter the first battle. It took Pereira only more than a minute to get the 205 pound gold back via TKO in the Rematch.
Israel Adesanya, who was war with Pereira in MMA and kickboxing, responded to the fight in a video placed on his Youtube -channel. “The Last Stylebender” revealed when he felt that Ankalaev was in trouble (H/T Mmafighting).
“When Ankalaev became Orthodox, I knew it was a wrap,” said Adesanya. “I felt that it was a wrap. Because you give him the leg that he likes. That means that his right leg had already been affected from the inside of the legs.
“He came out of smoke and immediately attacked him, put him behind the black line and then attacked the front leg. He was not in the last fight because someone said he was compromised and his foot or his leg was injured. But two or three, and then Ankalaev switched over and … that’s all she wrote. Knockout by the champion!”
Ankalaev will have to go back to the drawing table, and there is no guarantee that he will get a trilogy fight with Pereira. “Patan” is looking for a heavyweight collision with Jon Jones in the White House. Dana White would rather give it if Pereira stays in lightweight, probably that Carlos Ulberg or Jiri Prochazka meets. Although Ulberg would be a new matchup, Pereira is 2-0 against Procazka.
Pereira may have to wait a while before he is cleared to return to the Octagon. During the UFC 320 post-fighting press conference, he revealed to reporters that he believes he has suffered a broken foot.
