American Alycia Parks, who reached the Ostrava quarter-finals earlier in 2022, advanced against Julia Grabher of Austria, 7-6(3) 6-2, with a display of strength and feeling, and will next meet Elina Avanesyan of Armenia for a place in the quarter-finals on Tuesday.
Elsewhere, number six Caty McNally, another American, also came from 2-4 down in the second set to beat Suzan Lamens of the Netherlands 6-3 7-5, and will meet Czech wildcard Tereza Martincova. in round 2
In an all-French derby, Diane Parry defeated Oceane Dodin 6-1 6-4 to set up a second round match with eighth seed Panna Udvardy of Hungary.
