Orange Loaf Cake Recipe
This orange loaf cake recipe is packed with fresh orange juice and orange zest, giving it loads of flavor, moist citrusy deliciousness, and a sugary, crunchy orange topping.
Best of all, the soft and fluffy cake only uses 5 ingredients and is super easy to put together.
How to make the simple recipe

Start by gathering the 5 simple ingredients you need for homemade orange cake:
- 110 g butter
- 2 oranges
- 1/2 cup sugar (+2-3 tablespoons for the topping)
- 2 eggs
- 2 cups plain flour
Place the butter in a small saucepan on the stove over medium to high heat, cook until melted, then pour into a large mixing bowl and set aside to cool slightly.

To make the crunchy, sugary topping, grate the zest of both oranges into a small bowl with a microplane grater and mix with the 2-3 tablespoons of sugar until well combined and you have the consistency of a crumbly topping.

The recipe suggests 2-3 tablespoons, it really depends on how sweet you want your sweet treats.
Returning to the cake batter, add the juice of both oranges to the melted butter by cutting the oranges in half and pressing them into a sieve over the bowl with the butter.

Add the remaining 1/2 cup sugar and eggs and beat together with an electric mixer until you have a smooth and creamy mixture.

Then it’s just a matter of adding the flour to the mixture and beating again until you have a smooth cake batter.

Transfer the orange cake batter to a baking tin lined with well-greased baking paper, top with the orange zest and place in the oven at 180 degrees Celsius for 50 to 60 minutes or until the bread is golden brown and done.
Allow the cake to cool in the pan to room temperature before removing and serving. Store any leftovers in an airtight container.
Optional additional ingredients – add a pinch of salt or vanilla extract to enhance the flavor of the cake. You can also stir in raisins or chocolate chips for a nutty loaf.
Top ideas – you can enjoy your cake as is, dusted with icing sugar or icing sugar or even topped with buttercream, cream cheese frosting or a topping of your choice.
