Liverpool’s chances of success in the final game of the Champions League stage are clearer than the mood suggests after Bournemouth.

The defeat on the south coast hurt the momentum, but Europe was a different story.

Opta’s pre-match analysis has Liverpool as overwhelming favorites to beat Qarabag at Anfield.

“Liverpool has a 79.6% chance of winning at home against Qarabag, according to the Opta supercomputer.”

That alone determines the evening, a win guarantees a place in the top eight and direct qualification for the last sixteen.

That’s important because if we finish in the top eight we avoid the play-off round and get a rare mid-season breather.

Liverpool enters the final matchday fourth in the Champions League with 15 points. Opta’s expected final table will see us finish third if we do what is expected and win.

Qarabag, on the other hand, starts the evening in 18th place. Their European campaign has been impressive at times, but history is against them here.

Qarabag have played four away matches against English sides in Europe and have lost all four by an aggregate score of 13-1.

That context is important when weighing the opportunities.

Opta’s 10,000 simulations make Liverpool one of the strongest favorites over the entire matchday.

Only Arsenal have a higher chance of winning in their match.

In short, the numbers say Liverpool need to sort things out.

Even a draw could still be enough to break into the top eight, depending on results elsewhere.

But Liverpool don’t have to gamble on permutations; we control our own destiny.

Recent Premier League form has raised legitimate concerns; five league victories in eighteen games tell their own story.

But Europe has looked consistently more comfortable under Arne Slot.

Since Slot took charge, Liverpool have had the highest Champions League winning percentage of any team.

We won thirteen of seventeen European games under him, but that context is often lost in the noise.

Dominik Szoboszlai has been the clearest symbol of that difference. He leads Liverpool in goals and goal involvement in this Champions League campaign.

Virgil van Dijk has also been huge in Europe, winning 24 of the 28 aerial matches in the competition.

This is important against a team from Qarabag that is highly dependent on the movements of Camilo Duran in the penalty area.

Van Dijk has already summarized the internal mindset.

“We know what is at stake tonight, and it is up to us as a team to deliver the result – and the performance – we need to secure our place in the last 16 of the Champions League.”

That tone reflects a group that understands the opportunities. The defeat at Bournemouth does not define our European season – if anything it sharpens the focus.

Liverpool need to win and the stats say they probably will.
