Ibrahima Konate now has less than eight months left on his current contract at Anfield, and foreign clubs could approach him from January about a possible pre-contract deal, with Real Madrid continually reporting their interest in signing him.
It remains to be seen whether the 26-year-old will emulate Mo Salah and Virgil van Dijk by eventually signing an extension on Merseyside, or whether Trent Alexander-Arnold will follow suit by winding down his existing terms.
Liverpool presents Konate with a contract ultimatum
According to Caught offsideLiverpool are determined not to let the uncertainty over the Frenchman’s future drag on as long as the aforementioned sagas did last season, with the Reds willing to let their number 5 leave in January and replace him immediately with Marc Guehi.
It is claimed that Anfield chiefs have presented an improved contract offer to Konate that would make him one of the highest paid players in L4, but they have insisted this is their final offer.
The report adds that the centre-back has yet to respond to the deal LFC have put on the table, so it remains unclear whether this will be enough to convince him to extend his stay at the club.
Let’s hope Konate accepts Liverpool’s latest contract offer
Sources vary considerably on how much Konate currently earns at Anfield – Capology And Spotter both mention his salary at £70,000 per week, but Salary Sports quote it for double that amount.
Whatever his net salary, what is indisputable is that the Frenchman – despite all the criticism he has received this season – is one of Arne Slot’s most trusted players. third most minutes from everyone at Liverpool so far this season.
Sometimes a player longs for a new challenge, and perhaps that applies to the 26-year-old, who is now in his fifth season with the Reds. If no monetary offer convinces him to stay at LFC, he will leave with the club’s blessing next summer.
However, if Konate has simply bided his time to get the best possible deal for himself and is happy to stay on Merseyside, then we’d be more than happy to have him for a few more years given his importance to Slot’s side.
Either way, it seems Liverpool are planning to resolve the matter well before the summer so fans don’t get put through the wringer like they did last season with the Salah/Van Dijk/Alexander-Arnold sagas.
Hopefully this latest proposal will please the Frenchman and he will stay for the foreseeable future.
