Norman Whiteside tells Ruben Amorim to repeat Sir Alex Ferguson’s trick to keep momentum – Man United News and Transfer News | The People’s Person

Manchester United legend Norman Whiteside has revealed the Sir Alex Ferguson trick that Ruben Amorim must urgently emulate if he wants to succeed at the club.

United is turning things around

After a patchy start to the season, United appear to have finally turned a corner under Amorim.

Currently, after a five-match unbeaten run, United are building some momentum as they look to finish within the Champions League places. With a favorable run of games coming up after the November international break, there is a good chance United can finish the campaign strongly.

Central to United’s revival has been their form at Old Trafford. The Red Devils boast a 100% home record since the unfortunate opening day defeat to Arsenal.

Ahead of Monday’s meeting with Everton, Whiteside spoke to media club and revealed that United’s success was built on one key foundation: Old Trafford was an absolute fortress.

He explained that this was the core of United’s strategy, with visiting teams often celebrating having escaped the Theater of Dreams with just one point.

Whiteside points to Amorim

Whiteside, who left for Everton in 1986 shortly after Sir Alex’s arrival, said: “I do the matchday hospitality, I’ve been doing that for about 30 years now, and I always gave my two cents worth on the games. I always said Old Trafford was a fortress and this would be 2-0 or 3-0, but I always said zero!”

“But the last few years we’ve been giving away goals, and that’s not what we were used to. So I would say 2-1 or 3-2 and when you start giving the other team a goal, it’s not quite the same fortress that we used to have. But slowly they’re starting to do well.”

“I don’t think people are afraid to come to Old Trafford. That’s the point. Especially with Fergie’s teams, he wanted to build it up so that teams should be terrified of coming to Old Trafford.”

“It doesn’t matter who it is. Whether it’s Liverpool, [Manchester] City, Everton, Chelsea. It doesn’t matter. They always thought they would come here and be happy with a point, things like that.”

“But we’ve had a few seasons in recent times where we’ve been beaten in the opening games at Old Trafford, and it needs to lock down a bit more to figure out the old fortress idea.”

Whiteside noted that besides United, the other club he holds close to his heart is Everton.

United vs. Everton starts at 8 p.m.
