Nick Woltemade signed with Newcastle United three months ago. United agreed to match Stuttgart’s valuation, unlike Bayern Munich who had tried to acquire the exciting young striker on the cheap. Newcastle United will pay £65m guaranteed, plus around £4m in potential future add-ons.
So how difficult was the decision for the then Stuttgart striker? The now Newcastle United star gives his answer to German media.
Nick Woltemade in conversation Stern – December 4, 2025:
“I had two days to think [on whether to sign for Newcastle United, or not…] but I didn’t have to think long.
“Because Newcastle United is a great club, playing in the strongest league in the world.
“My goal has always been to compete with the best.”
Nick Woltemade fits so well at Newcastle United, as does his international teammate Malick Thiaw.
Woltemade spoke after last weekend’s win over Everton about (see below) how easy the transition was when he moved to Tyneside and settled at Newcastle United.
At the Hill Dickinson Stadium, Nick Woltemade scored a brilliant lob as United won 4-1 against Everton, his seventh goal of the season for Newcastle United.
Against Spurs on Tuesday, Big Nick did not score, but did get an assist for Bruno’s goal.
In total, Nick Woltemade has played 21 games for club and country this season and has scored 13 direct goals, scored 11 goals and received two assists.
When the Germany international was previously asked how he felt about adapting to the Premier League after the Everton 1 Newcastle 4 match on November 29, 2025:
“Really an easy transition.
“The boys welcomed us (Nick Woltemade and compatriot Malick Thiaw) very well.
“The fans already make it feel like home.
“It’s a nice feeling for us.
“I think I can improve my game, but I have scored goals and those are the most important things for a striker.
“To get a good feeling at a new club, especially in a new league, I am very happy with that.”
A typically modest Nick Wolte said about his latest stylish goal, Jordan Pickford:
“It was a good counter-attack.
“Antony [Elanga] played good ball for me.
“I was a bit lucky that it went in.”
My thoughts
Nick Woltemade was exceptional, especially considering the bitter nonsense he also had to endure from senior figures at Bayern Munich, which the media in Germany were happy to make headlines before the media in Britain slavishly repeated.
What an asset he has turned out to be for the ‘idiots’ at Newcastle United!
Not just the seven goals (eleven for club and country) he has scored, Nick Woltemade is such a selfless player, plus great character off the pitch.
