Well, roll slowly is the first thing I would say. I know everyone is excited, but we are still a long way from the NHL trade deadline, which is in March.

Yes, expansion talks between the New York Rangers and Artemi Panarin’s camp have been very slow. But I still think the Rangers ultimately want to understand what kind of team they have first. They are coming off winning three of four on their western road trip.

And similarly, the Boston Bruins, who were in last place in the Eastern Conference and now close to a playoff spot again, are once again squarely in the mix after three straight wins. They have been very happy with Panarin’s production since he arrived as a free agent. He’s clearly a huge part of this team, and he could go down as one of the best free agents of all time. When you think about how he came in, what he has produced, the speed and also how successfully the Rangers have emerged from a rebuild and how he has led them into a new era of New York Rangers hockey.

Look, everyone is excited about the Panarin trade talks. I mentioned the Carolina Hurricanes as one of those teams keeping a close eye on the situation. They’re not alone, but it will be fascinating to see this all come together, as the Rangers will want a little more time to figure out what they have before taking more drastic action.
