Boxing champion explains problem with Jake Paul pulling Gervonta Davis fight | BJPenn.com

A decorated multi-division world boxing champion takes issue with Jake Paul’s reasoning for breaking up the fight with Gervonta “Tank” Davis.

Amid a civil lawsuit against Davis, Paul and Most Valuable Promotions announced that the ‘Tank’ fight will no longer take place. Paul’s team has reportedly explored several options, including a rematch with Nate Diaz. At this time, Paul’s new opponent has not been made official.

During a recent livestream on X, Claressa Shields revealed her problem with Paul’s logic in stopping the Davis fight (h/t MMA Junkie).

“I have a few things to say about that,” Shields said. “One, I will say this, I’m not going to say that I agree 100 percent with what Jake said, but I will say that we all knew Tank’s background with domestic violence before his fight. Before any of his fights happen, we already know that he has a problem with this. This isn’t the first, second or even third time something like this has come out or whatever the case may be. Now he’s been arrested for it, but he hasn’t served any jail time for it, but we all know he has a problem with this. So I don’t know why he brings it up as if Jake didn’t already know this about him, that’s something I don’t like.

“Second, to say he’s the most despicable human being and blah, blah. None of this was said until this stuff came out. I just think it’s just karma for some people. It’s just karma, that’s all.”

Shields went on to say that ultimately, she isn’t surprised the fight is over. What surprises her even more is the fact that Paul has not yet officially found himself a new opponent, although Diaz claims he has accepted the fight.
