Champions Surbiton started the season in style on their first visit to Caterham School who defeated Oxted 3-7. In a hectic opening of six minutes, Surbiton led 3-1 before he hit comfortable winners with seven different players on the score sheet, including a debut goal for Nick Bandurak, recurring to League Action after injury.
Runners-up Old Georgians were also in the free score mode that Beston defeated 5-0, including a goal for Henry Croft, who came to his debut in the summer of the Nottingham side and three for another former bee, Sam Ward.
Wimbledon went a better than Surbiton in an 8-4 victory over a promoted lecture. Wimbledon led 5-0 during the break and although it was a better second period for the visitors, Sam Hooper of Wimbledon converted two corners to bring his hat trick.
Hampstead and Westminster were also big winners after a strong first half, with 4-0 from the Turnaround before he saw East Grinstead 5-2.
Holcombe opened the new season with a comfortable 3-0 win over Cardiff & with, who still has to score a goal in Holcombe Park.
Remarkable for the second season we had left a match because of the weather on the opening day. This time it was Brooklands Mu v Southgate, who fell the way of many sporting games in the northwest after heavy rain on Saturday in the afternoon.
EHL Women’s Premier Division
Reading started their League Championship Defense with a last GASP 2-1 victory at Wimbledon. Flora Fletcher, who came to Wimbledon from Exeter University in the summer, gave Wimbledon an early lead that canceled Lorna Mackenzie the peace of the break. Annie Wilson scored on the battle of full-time to condemn Wimbledon to a third consecutive loss of opening day 2-1, all remarkable with winning goals in the last two minutes.
Durham made a winning start of their Prime Minister Division debut and defeated Clifton Robinsons 2-1. Lorna Crawford and Evelyn Wilson scored their goals with Evie Grindal who aroused an equalizer for the visitors who played without a keeper in the dying phases to try to force another, but were refused on two Overstime corners.
Colleague newcomers Barnes did not do so well against a baptism of fire, with 6-0 down in Surbiton, the best opening day result of the home team ever.
Hampstead & Westminster started their season with a 3-0 win over East Grinstead. Rose Tynan scored twice and Holly hunts for the other. They will also be satisfied with the closing of EC, which only scored the second time since September 2023 in a league match.
Birmingham University also beat Bowdon 3-0 and replicated the result in their last meeting.
The Student Derby of Nottingham University saw visiting Loughborough students get away with a 5-1 victory including two goals for debutant Mia Moore, top scorer at Reading in the past two seasons.
