World No 2 Iga Swiatek launched its campaign for a 2nd US Open title with an emphatic victory on Tuesday on Emiliana Arango in Colombia in straight sets, while Amanda Anisimova, Maya Joint and Laura Siegemund were also one after the first round of the first round.

She [Taylor Swift] Posted when I was ready. Maybe that’s no coincidence, I don’t know. It is clear that she had many friends, so we know all about that. So hopefully this, you know, will stay forever. Travis seems like a great guy. She seems super happy, so I’m happy for her. Iga Swiatek

After lifting the trophies in Wimbledon and the Cincinnati Open, Swiatek has become a favorite for the title in New York, and her opening match at the Arthur Ashe Stadium Court recently underlined her confidence while she sent Arango, 6-1 6-2, in just 60 minutes.

The 24-year-old pole took control against the world NR from the start.

The No 2-Seede won the point at 23 of her 26 first minute, and had a 26-5 advantage in winners, while she never had a breaking point and was not taken to dent in one of her 8 service games.

Swiatek went between matches for almost a week after losing the final of the Mixed Doubles Championship with Casper Ruud last Wednesday evening, but her rhythm immediately came back in a dominant start of the tournament.

“It was certainly a solid match and I am glad I was not trying to overwhelm, but I was just solid,” Swiatek said afterwards.

The victory makes Swiateek the first woman in history that wins 65 consecutive WTA level 1st round races and exceeds the previous record of Monica Seles of 64, while she has now also won 16 of her last 17 games.

It is a welcome return to top shape after a disappointing clay court, when she traditionally dominates and keeps 4 Roland Garros crowns to her name.

Her collaboration with coach Wim Fissette finally produces the results that De Belger is more used to, with Won Majors with Kim Clijsters, Victoria Azarenka, Angelique Kerber and Naomi Osaka.

He was hired by Swiateek at the end of last year and now plays an integral role in her revival, aimed at a few small technical adjustments that have taken time to adjust.

Swiatek has also had to deal with the consequences of serving a suspension of a month after testing positive on the forbidden drug trimetazidine, which the authorities accepted, was due to a polluted melatonin party, a freely available medication she used for Jetlag.

She ranked her world no. 1 ranked by her absence of the Tour, and her form slipped, while struggling to tackle the situation herself, as well as the expectations on her shoulders on her return, but, together with Fissette in the preseason, the foundations were laid for her arrival.

“I would say, after Roland Garros, I came, kind of back to my usual self,” Swiatek told reporters on the eve of the US Open. “I would say that the process of learning all these things in the preseason came back a bit, and I certainly got it on [grass at] Wimbledon, and on Hard Court in Cincinnati. “

Fissette has worked on Swiatek’s footwork to enable her to better deal with the faster surfaces, and the result is amazing, with title profits at Wimbledon and in Cincinnati.

“In general we have made a small change in the footwork for faster surfaces,” Fissette told the media in Wimbledon. “It was funny because I showed her, and then she tried it, but was not convinced. Then she asked me to show her some videos, but she said, shows me realistic videos, not like Novak Djokovic or Carlos Alcaraz.”

After more than a year without having gone a WTA title and became as low as NR in June.

Swiatek improved to 26-1 in 1st round races at Majors, connected to Serena Williams for the 4th best win percentage in opening games by every woman in the open era, and she has now won 50 matches on touring level this season, with only Alcaraz, on 55 and Aryna Sabelenka, 51, more with 51.

A second title for the 2022 champion in New York would make her the first woman to win Wimbledon and the US Open in the same year since Williams achieved this in 2012.

Swiatek also has the chance to get the No. 1 ranking back if she wins the title, but Sabalenka must also lose for the quarterfinals.

The 6-time Grand SLAM champion is then confronted with Suzan Lamens from the Netherlands, who defeated the American Wildcard Valerie Glozman, 6-4 6-2.

After her match, Swiateek found out that Taylor Swift was engaged to friend Travis Kelce, a subject that dominated her press conference.

“She placed when I was ready,” said Swiateek. “Maybe that’s no coincidence, I don’t know.”

Swiatek, who has been a dedicated Swiftie for more than a decade, received a handwritten note from the singer while he attended a era trail concert shortly after winning the French Open from 2024, and she knows her way around Swift’s music as well as the court.

“It is clear that she had a lot of friends, so we know all about that. So hopefully this will, you know, forever,” said Swiateek. “Travis seems like a great guy. She seems super happy, so I’m happy for her.”

Meanwhile, at Louis Armstrong Stadium, the American Amanda Anisimova, the second place of Swiateek in Wimbledon, Kimberly Birrell from Australia, 6-3 6-2, defeated in confident style.

The 8th seed chases another shot on Grand Slam Glory and builds 1000 title in Doha on a strong season with her Maiden WTA and a run to the Wimbledon final, where she walked a crushing defeat with double bagel to Swiateek, 6-0 6-0.

“It is not easy to play in the first round of a Grand Slam, I never played against her, so it was difficult,” Anisimova said to Birrell after her game. “It has been a special year, I just enjoy the trip.

“I try to have fun every day, but these are the moments that I enjoy the most. I lost in the first round last year, so I am really happy that I did better than that.”

Anisimova rode her momentum in the second, Birrell broke twice, held comfortably to complete the victory and continued to the 2nd round, where another Aussie in the 19-year-old Maya-Joint will be confronted.

Joint, who was born in the US of an Australian father, changed her loyalty and makes large waves on tour, this year already wins 2 titles on Clay in the Morocco Open and on grass in Eastbourne.

On Tuesday she defeated Andorra’s Victoria Jimenez Kasintseva, 6-4 7-6 (6), another talented young player, and after she had lost her previous three 1st round games during this year’s Grand, the 19-year-old was delighted to get past the qualification after an hour and 45 minutes at the court 6.

The Aussie World No 43, which made her first important figure during last year’s tournament when she made the 2nd round, set up the ranking since she started the 2024 season at 684.

On Tuesday she again demonstrated her fine temperament when Kasintseva, arranged at 130 and was only 20 years old, exerted the pressure in a second set of 66 minutes, earn twice set points at 5-3 and then again in the Tiebreak at 6-5.

However, Joint took the last 3 points to close the deal and set up a 2nd round meeting with Anisimova.

Siegemund has now achieved a top 20 victory in the first week of 3 of the 4 Majors this year after beating Zheng Qinwen in the Australian Open 2nd-Round, and Madison Keys in the Wimbledon 3rd-Round, the 4th player this decade to do this.

It is remarkable that the result was the first singles of Siegemund on the US Open since 2019, and only her 4th here in 9 performances on the head.

There was no hint of a Monterrey Hangover for a beaten-up finalist Ekaterina Alexandrova, the 13th seed from Russia, in a difficult opener in 2018 semi-finalist Anastasija Sevastova from Latvia, whose comeback of maternity verb and an Acl-injury oh and jessa and you of your notch and you of your notes and you, youg and your notche and you, notch and you-to-be-in-shees and you-tapes and your notch and you-tapes and your notch and your notch and you-tapes and youg

However, Alexandrova was chosen everywhere and only needed 68 minutes to move forward, 6-4 6-1, and then takes Wang Xinyu from China, who conquered America’s Caroline Dolehide, 2-6 6-4 6-2.
