Julian Nagelsmann admitted Germany took “a long time to get into our rhythm” during their win over Luxembourg in World Cup qualifying.
The four-time world champion recorded his fourth straight win in Group A, thanks to a brace from Nick Woltemade at the Stade de Luxembourg in the second half.
Germany survived a few scares during the first half, with Danel Sinani and Aiman Darderi both narrowly missing the target for the home side.
Nagelsmann’s side finally broke the deadlock in the 49th minute through Nagelsmann, who added a second 20 minutes later to put the game to bed.
“The three points are the most important today,” said the German national coach.
“Ultimately, football is a results sport. But we didn’t start well in the first half. It took a long time before we got into our rhythm. Luxembourg had chances and should have taken the lead.”
“In the second half we were much better, had more control, scored two goals and deservedly won the match. We got the three points.”

Woltemade has now scored three goals in his last two games for Germany, having also scored the decisive goal in the 1-0 win over Northern Ireland last time out.
The striker agreed that the visitors got stronger as the match went on, saying: “The performance in the first half was not good. There was a lot of back and forth and we faced a lot of dangerous situations.”
“The second half was better, we were more precise and scored the goals we needed. At the moment the three points are the most important.”
“We knew that Luxembourg can play football. Everyone admitted at halftime that the first half was not good. We were significantly better then, with more control and more chances.”
“It’s really nice to get a brace here, but as long as we win it doesn’t matter who scores.”
