It was a memorable first Bundesliga start for American national team defender Noahkai Banks.
Banks scored his first goal for Augsburg in the 3-1 home victory of Saturday at Wolfsburg. The 18-year-old defender got the starting nod in the team of Sandro Wagner and wasted little time to open his goalscore account.
Banks arrived on the rear pole on a corner kick to finish the cross of Mert Komur.
Komur doubled Augsburg’s lead in the 51st minute before Robin Fellhauer expanded the hosts’ lead after the timetable.
Despite a consolation goal from Wolfsburg, Augsburg would hold to make his four-match Winless Run.
Banks, who received his first USMNT call-up in September, had made two previous starts for Augsburg for the appearance of Saturday. The Young Centerback can mainly be seen in a BackThree for the German club during his time with the first team.
It was previously shown for the U-19s and U-20s of the USMNT U-17.
“It is not really sunk that I could help the team with my first Bundesliga goal,” Banks said in an interview with the club after the club. “We were all very motivated and knew exactly how important this competition was, the coach really prepared us for it. The quality in this team has always been there, and today we showed it on the field. It was such a special afternoon for me – my whole family was here, even my grandmother for the first time.”
Augsburg returns to the competition against Cologne on October 18 and wants to build on his current 13th place.
