Muhammad Mokaev Reveals UFC BJJ Belt Offer for Mikey Musumeci

Muhammad Mokaev has revealed that he has received an offer UFC Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu title fight against reigning bantamweight champion Mikey Musumeci, a match that would mark his first appearance under the UFC banner since his release in 2024 and his debut in the promotion’s specialty wrestling league.

The 25-year-old flyweight posted on X that he had received an offer to compete against Musumeci for the “UFC BJJ belt” and asked fans for their response, which meant both a heartfelt consideration and a public temperature check on an unexpected route back into the organization’s orbit.

In his short message, Mokaev wrote, “I have been offered to fight Mikey Musumeci for the UFC BJJ title. What do you think guys?”, attaching the message to an image referencing the UFC’s wrestling division and labeling the matchup as a title opportunity. The question immediately attracted attention as it suggested direct discussions with UFC BJJ matchmakers and framed the offer as a championship shot rather than a standard wrestling booking.

Fans who had been following his departure from the UFC saw the note as a possible first step toward mending a strained relationship with the promotion that once viewed him as an up-and-coming flyweight prospect.

Musumeci, meanwhile, has become the central figure within UFC BJJ since joining the brand following a successful run with ONE Championship’s submission grappling division. Widely regarded as one of the most accomplished modern jiu-jitsu competitors, the American black belt captured the inaugural UFC BJJ bantamweight title at UFC BJJ 1 in June 2025 by submitting Rerisson Gabriel with a heel hook in the third round, then defended the belt against Keven Carrasco later that year with another leg-lock finish. He is currently scheduled to defend the title at UFC BJJ 5 on February 12 against Scottish grappler Shay Montague.

For Mokaev, any fight with Musumeci would come at a delicate point in his career. The British-Dagestan flyweight left the UFC in 2024 after the promotion opted not to renew his contract despite a 7-0 undefeated streak that included victories over ranked opponents Alex Perez, Tim Elliott and Manel Kape.

He has since insisted in interviews that communication with key UFC executives, including Hunter Campbell and matchmaker Mick Maynard, improved after he moved to Brave CF and won a title there, and has repeatedly stated that he expects to fight in the UFC again in 2026. A wrestling title outing under the UFC BJJ banner wouldn’t restore his spot on the MMA roster by itself, but it would put him back on a UFC-branded platform and signal a willingness to take on tough assignments. to restore trust.

Stylistically, a meeting with Musumeci would take Mokaev into uncharted territory. Musumeci is a five-time IBJJF world black belt champion and former ONE flyweight submission world titleholder, with a record built on guard play and intricate leg locks that have been carried over directly to his UFC BJJ title run.

Mokaev, on the other hand, has made a name for himself through pressure wrestling and top control in MMA rather than pure submission wrestling, and reports indicate he is 0-2 in specialty wrestling matches. Still, his public question to fans indicates he sees value beyond the scoreboard, whether it’s a bridge back to the UFC or a chance to test himself against one of the sport’s most decorated specialists on a big stage.
