Mike Ashley makes tens of millions offer for Sheffield Wednesday to administrators

Mike Ashley could soon become the new owner of Sheffield Wednesday after making an offer to buy the club to Wednesday’s administrators.

John Percy is usually very reliable at The Telegraph and he is the one who broke the story.

He says his information is that former Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley submitted his bid to buy Championship club Sheffield Wednesday last night (Tuesday, November 25, 2025).

The man from The Telegraph stating that Ashley made a £20m offer to Sheffield Wednesday administrators yesterday.

It’s now been more than four years since Newcastle United fans saw them rooting for them and Mike Ashley has reportedly come close to buying Derby County, Coventry City and Reading as he focuses on ailing ‘brands’ that he thinks can make him money.

The newspaper report states that ‘Administrators Begbies Traynor have advised all interested parties to provide £50 million as evidence of the financial resources to access the data room and undertake due diligence. They would like to announce a preferred bidder before December 5.”

Kris Wigfield, managing partner of Begbies, said: “We have received a number of good offers for the club and we will evaluate these in detail over the coming days.

“Our hope is to grant preferred bidder status by December 5. This will allow the EFL’s processes to commence and take the club a significant step closer to new ownership and a new chapter.”

Sheffield Wednesday are currently 19 points behind the safety and are even at minus four points, as 12 points have been deducted.

Their fans deserve better and we hope they find a new owner soon, who will take better care of their club and rebuild it in the long term. I hope for their sake that the new owner isn’t Mike Ashley.
