On December 24, United shared a photo of both their first women’s and men’s teams on social platforms. ..Continue reading
Supporters welcomed the revival of the festive tradition, as the most recent photo of the men’s team before this was from the 2019/20 season, as noted by Man United.com.
The image showed both teams, alongside men’s head coach Ruben Amorim and women’s head coach Marc Skinner.
At first glance, the photo looks like a standard team photo, but fans quickly noticed something unusual in a player from the men’s first team.
Footage from the photoshoot uploaded to United’s YouTube channel showed striker Benjamin Sesko did not appear to be present.
Despite this, he still appears in the final image, seemingly edited in – likely using Photoshop – and positioned next to fellow striker Joshua Zirkzee.
A total of 49 players were involved in the shoot, with Celin Bizet Donnum absent after recently confirming she is expecting her first child in 2026.
Supporters online were quick to point out the strange edit.
One fan wrote: “Why was Benjamin Sesko photoshopped into this photo?
“Wasn’t he at the Man Utd photoshoot?”
Another commented: “By the way, there is actually one person photoshopped into this photo.”
A third added: “When did Amad, [Bryan] Mbeumo, and [Noussair] Mazraoui come back [from AFCON] for the rapture?”
The club later clarified that the Slovenian striker, who joined United from RB Leipzig in the summer window for £66.3m, was absent as he was “ill” on December 12, the day of the shoot, and was subsequently “added in the edit”.
The 22-year-old will be hoping for a better second half of the 2025/26 season after scoring just two goals and one assist in 14 games under Amorim so far. His most recent goal came in the 2-0 home win over Sunderland on 4 October.
Mbeumo, Amad and Mazraoui were still training with United on December 12 and were therefore able to attend the shoot, but have since left to represent Cameroon, Ivory Coast and Morocco respectively at the ongoing 2025/26 Africa Cup of Nations.
United resume Premier League action at Old Trafford against Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United on Boxing Day (December 26), before hosting relegation-battling Wolves on December 30.
