Man Utd have shown interest in Ajax star Jorthy Mokio

Manchester United have expressed an interest in signing Ajax’s highly rated defensive midfielder Jorthy Mokio Air sports.

Mokio moved from KAA Gent to the Dutch giants last summer, going on to make 20 appearances for Ajax U21 and a further 29 senior appearances, twelve of which came in all competitions.

Earlier in the campaign The Guardian placed him in the top 60 of talents born in 2008.

He fully fits the description of a prodigy: he made his debut for Ajax at the age of sixteen and became the club’s second youngest starter in the history of the Eredivisie, behind only the legendary Clarence Seedorf, and became the third youngest goalscorer in the history of the Europa League.

Having already appeared for Belgium at the age of 17, all indications are that he is on course to command the midfield for the next 15 years, possibly forging a long-term partnership with fellow rising star Nathan De Cat, who plays for Anderlecht.

According to Sky Sports, Ajax wants to extend Mokio’s stay at the Johan Cruyff Arena beyond 2027, but the 17-year-old is reluctant to sign a new contract and is considering a possible departure, putting several clubs on red alert.

One of the clubs keen to sign the youngster is Man Utd, according to Sky Sport, who claim the 13-time Premier League champions are ‘most interested’ in Mokio as he has impressed the club’s scouts as a player who fits into the club’s youth-driven rebuilding process.

However, the Red Devils face stiff competition for his signature as the report adds that Newcastle United and Eintracht Frankfurt have also identified the versatile midfielder as a potential option to strengthen their squads.

Expectation

Since Sir Jim Ratcliffe acquired a minority stake in United, the club has shifted its recruitment strategy towards bringing in emerging talent. Jason Wilcox and Christopher Vivell have heavily influenced this direction thanks to their backgrounds in youth development at Manchester City and the Red Bull network.

Under this new-look structure, United have already signed a number of promising youngsters – Harley Emsden-James, Enzo Kana-Biyik and Diego Leon – adding to an academy that was further strengthened last season by the arrivals of Ayden Heaven and Chido Obi.

With a sum of £8 million Transfer market Given the valuation, United could get a player who fits the bill perfectly, slotting seamlessly into Amorim’s lineup while also having the potential to become an important figure for the club in the coming years.
