Newcastle in advanced talks to appoint Premier League director – Report

Newcastle United and the position of sporting director have been anything but easy in recent years.

The first was Dan Ashworth, who started well and was soon turned around by Man Utd after seeing Paul Mitchell arrive after his time in Monaco last July.

Mitchell and Eddie Howe were clearly at odds, and this was evident just a few months ago when the 44-year-old announced he would be leaving in May, less than 12 months after his arrival.

David Hopkinson has been appointed as our new CEO, and it feels like our plans to replace Mitchell are finally moving forward talkSPORT reported this morning that Nottingham Forest’s Ross Wilson has agreed to take the job.

The 41-year-old has been tipped to land the position for several months, with ex-Arsenal chief Jason Ayto also linked, but Wilson is thought to have a good relationship with Howe and has impressed during a thorough interview process.

TalkSPORT also state that Newcastle are now in ‘advanced discussions’ with Nottingham Forest to complete a deal, presumably to agree a compensation package to land the 41-year-old.

In his career, Wilson has worked in various roles in Britain, starting at hometown club Falkirk before moving on to spells at Watford, Huddersfield, Southampton and Scottish giants Rangers, which he left before joining Forest a few years ago.
