Man Utd are eyeing a deal for Roma star Mile Svilar

The Red Devils strengthened their goalkeeping department with the arrival of Senne Lammens last summer, but the club is still not completely convinced of his qualities.

Caught offside claim United are likely to part ways with goalkeeping duo Altay Bayindir and Andre Onana next summer, but they could also pursue an upgrade from Lammens.

Roma star Svilar has emerged as a top target for the Mancunian giants, but the 26-year-old Serbian won’t come cheap as the Giallorossi could hold out for £52million.

United may struggle to pay such a price as they are expected to prioritize signings in midfield and defense at the end of the season.

Unlikely deal

Lammens signed as an unknown figure from Royal Antwerp with the Red Devils, but he fared well. The Belgian kept two clean sheets and made a number of phenomenal saves.

Of course, the 23-year-old can still improve with his movement between the sticks. He has been caught napping with his attitude several times.

Nevertheless, it would be a big surprise if United start looking for a first-choice goalkeeper this summer. Lammens has huge potential and a backup shot-stopper could be signed instead.

A move for Svilar seems unlikely. Roma are in a strong position to negotiate as he still has three and a half years left on his contract. They could claim a premium if they qualify for the Champions League.

United, on the other hand, is far from assured of a place in the Champions League. They are three points behind Liverpool in fourth place in the Premier League and one behind Brentford in fifth.

With a tough run of fixtures looming, interim boss Michael Carrick faces a huge challenge to ensure United manage to play in Europe at least next season.

The budget could be limited for the summer. It makes sense to sign a defensive midfielder and a centre-back, rather than buying another goalkeeper at a huge expense.
