Luka Doncic may want to end his professional basketball career where it started.
During an interview with the Wall Street Journal This week Doncic, 26, said that he is open to the idea of returning to Liga ACB’s Real Madrid once his career in the NBA is over.
Although Doncic said he wasn’t sure that he could make the return, he likes the potential idea.
“To play with Real Madrid, you have to be so good,” Doncic told the Wall Street Journal.
“Certainly,” said Luka about a reunion with Real Madrid. “They raised me.”
Real Madrid is perhaps the most renowned pro -basketball team in Europe, with 38 Spanish competition championships, 29 Spanish cups and 11 Euroleague titles.
Doncic’s career started as a member of Real Madrid at only 13 years old while playing for the Onder-16 Team of the organization.
After he turned 16, Doncic was moved to Real Madrid’s League team, the youngest to do this in the ACB.
Doncic played four years for Real Madrid between Liga ACB and the Euroleague before he was selected by the Hawks – then traded to the Mavericks on Design Nacht – with the number 3 general choice in the NBA design of 2018.
After having spent six seasons in Dallas, Doncic was traded halfway through last season to the Lakers in a shock, with the weight of the five times All-Star’s that was part of the discourse.
Doncic recently said that during the low season he lost 31 pounds as part of a dramatic physical transformation.
“So every summer I do my best to work on different things,” Doncic told the health of men. “It is clear that I am very competitive. This summer was just a little different, you know. It motivated me a bit to be even better.
“Just visually, I would say that my whole body looks better.”
