Because the Utah Jazz will be bad this season, while Lauri Markkanen is expected to be good, many trade rumors will continue to exist this season. The jazz has not worked on their attitude that he will linger, but many will believe that a trade is inevitable. Whether one happens or not, Markkanen has not received enough credit to be a good soldier during the Jazz process when his fellow -nba astrous nuts have often done the opposite.
For the context we have seen NBA stars sort out as soon as things go south with their current situation. They can be justified to feel like this, but what makes it worse is when people agree with a huge contract extension and then ask a year or two later. In essence, they waited until they were paid to only pay for a change in pace.
In short, they want both ways to be paid and play for a winner.
Kevin Durant did this. Damian Lillard too. Ben Simmons did this notoriously, and the new Jazzman Kevin Love did this way back when during his Cleveland days during their era after the LeBron. But not Markkans, which shows a lot about his true character.
Even if Utah has become younger, which led them to lead to them gradually getting worse since they first acquired him in 2022, there is not one squeak that he had problems with the franchise. Their rebuilding is perhaps very well at the expense of his Prime who is never used in a winning team, but that did not phases it at all.
Many will call to let Markkanen leave while the team continues its rebuilding, but it is a new change of pace to see that he is not one of them.
There is also a good reason why Markkans did not ask
It is great to see that the loyalty of Markkanen to Utah did not stagger at all. That makes him the exception to the norm when it comes to how NBA All-Stars usually responds to playing in bad situations when they are in their prime. However, an explanation why this is the case is that Utah gave Markkanen the chance to sprout when he had never had the chance.
It is impossible to say where his career would be at the moment if he had never been traded on jazz in the first place. Markkanen was not a scrub, but before Utah acquired him, everyone had lost confidence in his all-star potential despite the fact that he showed flashes earlier in his career. As soon as the jazz got hold of him, he finally got the chance to prove himself.
Not only that, but the jazz gave Markkanen a huge payment day when, not too long in advance, he struggled to find lovers during his limited free agency in 2021. Between helping him to become a star and give him a maximum extension, Utah gave Markkans every reason to stay loyal to them.
Things can change this season or after, but it is nice to see that Utah gets some loyalty from a star for a change.
