The upcoming Lightrail Transit 3 (LRT3) Shah Alam Line was 99.21% completed from 10 July and is expected to meet the start of 30 September of his activities. Minister of Transport Anthony Loke, who indicated this earlier in February, repeated the figures yesterday in a written parliamentary answer.

He said this in response to a question from Muhammad Fawwaz Mohamad Jan (PN – Permatang Pauh), who had asked the Ministry to explain the cause of delays and the increase in project costs, The star Reports.

He said that the project was confronted with delays, largely because of the COVID-19 Pandemie, which disrupted works between March 2020 and October 2021, with the MCO disruptions and shortages of the supply chain in building materials, in particular those of steel and cement. It also caused a shortage of skilled and semi-skilled work, with submissions for foreign employees who resumed only in November 2023.

Regarding the costs, Loke said that the almost RM10 -Bilion was saved on the LRT3 project despite the recovery of various components from its original scope. The costs of the project are now RM21.93 billion, which was RM9.72 billion less than the originally approved costs of RM31.65 billion when the project was first introduced in 2015.

Initially designed with 26 stations to serve the Western Corridor of the Greater Klang Valley, the project was launched in 2016 with a budget of RM9 billion. In 2018, the Pakatan Harapan government shot up the construction of five stations and canceled one, reducing the total costs to RM16.63 billion.

Howge, Budget 2024 saw Prime Minister and Minister of Finance that Series Anwar Ibrahim announced that the five stations – Tropicana (formerly Lien Hoe), Temasya, Youth (Sirim), Bukit Raja and Bandar Botanik – would be repaired at a cost of RM5.3 billion.

The costs also include seven trains with three collars, an extensive train depot in Johan Setia, 150 electric shuttle buses and the construction of three bus depots.
