Guehi’s contract at Crystal Palace expires at the end of the season, after which he will be available as a free agent to move clubs.
Liverpool agreed a £35 million deal to sign the England international in the summer, but the transfer collapsed on deadline day as Palace failed to secure a replacement in time.
The Premier League champions maintain their interest in signing the 25-year-old either in January or at the end of the season.
Barcelona are ready to match the Reds’ interest in Guehi. Spanish outlet SER chain report that Barcelona are interested in a deal to sign Guehi, but consider Liverpool the frontrunners. The Spanish champions see Guehi as a real market opportunity, especially given the club’s well-documented economic problems.
Barcelona have made signing a centre-back a priority following the departure of Inigo Martínez to Saudi Arabia last summer. Neither Andres Christensen, Ronald Araujo or Eric Garcia have earned Hansi Flick’s full trust as he looks for a long-term partner for Pau Cubarsi.
However, the belief within Barca is that Liverpool’s move for Guehi – all but completed in the summer – remains the most likely outcome.
