FREE HOUSE SALE
of power gain tax
In a recent article, the Wall Street Journal reported That President Trump is investigating the removal of power gain tax on housing sales to stimulate the housing market.
This would be a big advantage for homeowners, especially in the Bay Area, where house prices have rated. The range of available houses would increase for those who want to buy, because old homeowners would no longer have to fear confiscatory taxes on their profit if they were sold.
Eliminate power gains so that everyone can benefit from it.

Column creates one
Olympic loser for LA
Re: “Los Angeles should stop plans to organize 2028 Olympic Games” (Page A6, 25 July).
The suggestion of Joe Mathews that Los Angeles refuses to organize the 2028 Olympic Games, unless Donald Trump is a bridge too far.
Mathews makes a respectful thing why La should not have made the bid to organize the Olympic Games in the first place, but that is not the situation that La is now. Trump would never join the requirement that Mathews lists, so LA would be forced to return to his threat to withdraw from hosting the Olympics or actually withdrawing. Anyway, La (and California) would lose and win Trump.
I share the negative feelings of Mathews about Trump and his policy, but we have to choose our fights wisely and choose with Trump, and the 2028 Olympic Games are not the right struggle.

Ice cartoon only serves
To arouse the public debate
With regard to the editorial page Cartoon published on July 23 (Page A6), I have to object to the characterization of ICE agents as related to criminals. While ice officers throughout the country are routinely demonized by politicians and media personalities, they have confronted with a 830% increase In attacks during the first 6.5 months of this year compared to the same period in 2024.
Political cartoonists have the right to vent their complaints opposite chosen officials and to criticize the immigration policy of our nation. However, they would do well to consider that ice officers are apolitical actors who are obliged to follow legal orders and to maintain federal immigration legislation, as unpleasant as their tactics for some commentators. The defamation of these federal law enforcement officials – of whom many are our friends, family and neighbors who just try to earn a honest life – will keep an eye on the most unimportant time.

Stop Sussen Trump
and resist instead
The tragedy of the Munich Agreement of 1938 was not only that skilling a rabid dictator could not contain his hunger for further conquest and domination.
Instead, it is what it might have averted. The German General Staff distrusted Hitler’s aggressive plans and had decided that if he invaded Czechoslovakia, they would turn on a coup and design him.
The British Prime Minister Chamberlain gave Hitler the free gift from the Sudetenland and eventually the whole of Czechoslovakia without the Germans having to fire a shot.
This convinced the generals that Hitler was correct to challenge the West, and they gave up their coup.
Today we have our own authoritarian. All those who try to appease him by “bending the knee” encourage him instead of continuing to overthrow our established democracy. Instead, we all have to resist whether our rights lose for a long time.

Trump statements
An exercise in projection
In what should be the most ridiculous example of projection, Donald Trump called Joe Biden “a mental incompetent fool, and our worst president ever, who came close to destroying our country” and called him “Groospompetent.”
So if Biden is mentally incompetent and angry, what do we call someone who has separated children from his families, startered the entire population by unmasking USAID, relaxing cancer and other life -saving medical examination for decades and is a convicted criminal? And that is only for starters.

Faith we require
Call for the cessation -furen of gaza
Multifaith Voices for Peace & Justice’s Steering Committee agrees with religious and humanitarian communities around the world in condemnation:
• The ruthless murder of the Palestinians of the Israeli army of Palestinians, many of them children, many in auxiliary centers looking for food.
• The blockade of the Israeli government of safe and safe humanitarian aid to Gaza, essentially with starvation as a war weapon.
• Fatal settlers violence that takes place on the West Bank.
• The support of our government for the non -repellent bloodshed that endanger real safety for all people in the region.
We call up to an end to all violence, unobstructed delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza, and a just peace between Israelis and Palestinians who recognize the value of every person, dignity and human rights.
All our faith traditions teach us that every human life is holy. It is our religious and moral obligation to speak out against these atrocities and to protect innocent people, who and wherever they are.
