India’s first make-in-India Hydrogen plant launched in Kandla

  • Kandla inaugurated – The first green hydrogen plant from India, which was made entirely in India, was opened on July 31, 2025 in Danenayal Port in Kandla, Gujarat. It has a current capacity of 1 megawatt (mw).
  • Domestic implementation – This factory was fully used with Indian technology by L&T. It was quickly ready in just four months.
  • Phase one launch – This 1 MW factory is the first phase of a larger 10 MW project, which was started with a first stone that was laid in May 2025 by Premier Modi.
  • Annual output – The plant will make approximately 140 tonnes of green hydrogen every year.
  • First use – In the first phase, the hydrogen will be used to run 11 buses and also to provide the lights in the gate.
  • Portinnation – Dendayal -haven is now the first port in the country to start using hydrogen to walk tugboats (small boats), buses and other work in the harbor.

Ministerial praise and national vision

  • Success in highway – Minister of Union Sarbananda Sonowal said that this project makes the power of India work, do great things and use local skills. It fits well with the Maritime India Vision 2030.
  • Electric tugboat connection – This new factory follows another great success – when the port previously launched the first locally made electric green tugboat from India.
  • Gujarat’s performance – Minister of State Thakur said that this is a moment of pride for Gujarat and an important step for India to clean energy.

National hydrogen strategy accelerates

  • Mission goal – India wants to make 5 million tonnes of green hydrogen every year by 2030.
  • Vision -stimulus – The National Green Hydrogen Mission offers special financial support and rules to help companies set up green hydrogen projects.
  • Electrolyser tree -India is working on 2026 to build 15,000 MW of hydrogen machines (electrolysers). This needs an investment of £ 45,000 crore.
  • Adani -Pilot – In June 2025, Adani started a 5 MW green hydrogen plant in Kutch that runs on solar energy and batteries, without using electricity from outside.
  • JV projects – BPCL and Sembcorp have worked together to build large plants that make hydrogen and ammonia in Odisha and other parts of India.
  • Himachal project – In Solan, Himachal Pradesh, a new project worth £ 1,400 crore is planned. It makes hydrogen, ethanol and APIs (used in medicines), with a capacity of 30-50 MW.

Why Kandla leads the future

  • Indigenous technology -This is the first large green hydrogen plant in India that only used by India to make hydrogen.
  • Fast -legged – It was completed and started working in just four months, making it the fastest green hydrogen plant that has been built in India so far.
  • Operational blueprint – The plant is already used in real work in the port. It helps to run buses, relieve the area and support boat activities.
  • Scalable design – This plant will soon grow to 10 MW. The way it is built can also be copied in other ports and factories throughout the country.

Important questions

  1. Where did India make its first green hydrogen plant made entirely with Indian technology?
  2. Which company built the green hydrogen plant on Kandla with only Indian technology?
  3. What is the full planned capacity of the green hydrogen plant that is being built in the Kandla port?
  4. In what ways will the green hydrogen be used in Kandla port as soon as the plant runs?
  5. How does the green hydrogen plant in Kandla India help with its goals for clean energy consumption?

Conclusion

The first 1 MW green hydrogen plant from India, fully made in the land in Kandla, is a big step in the direction of clean energy and self -dependence. It was quickly made with Indian technology and shows a good example that other ports and industries in India can follow. It fits perfectly with the dream of the country to become a leader in green hydrogen and reducing pollution.
