An absolute bomb dropped on Wednesday afternoon after Alcaraz announced in a long post on social media that he was splitting up with Ferrero. During their seven years together, the Spanish tennis star won 24 top-level titles (six of which came at Grand Slams) and also captured eight lower-level titles when he was just starting out. The 22-year-old, who finished as the year-end No. 1, began his 50th week at the top spot on Monday.
This year, Alcaraz won a total of eight titles, including his second victories at the French Open and the US Open.
Ferrero: I wish I could have continued…
“Thank you, Carlos, for the trust, the commitment and the fact that your way of competing makes me feel so special. I wish you all the best, both professionally and personally. I would also like to thank the entire team for making my job easier during all these years. With you I learned that work is not just about tasks or results, but about the people who walk next to you. Each and every one of you left a mark on me that I will never forget,” Ferrero wrote on Instagram.
“Despite the difficulties, we have been a great team and I am sure you will continue to achieve great successes. I wish I could have continued. I firmly believe that good memories and good people always find a way to cross paths again. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”
Before Ferrero started working at Alcaraz, he had a stint with Alexander Zverev.
In the meantime, Alcaraz continues to work with Samuel Lopez, who has also been part of his team for years.
