The step speaks for itself. As the Jets enter the Olympic break, they won’t skate again until Feb. 17 before resuming play in Vancouver on Feb. 25. However, the Moose will play six games in that span, allowing Salomonsson and Phillips to stay in game action and continue to get reps instead of sitting.
“We’ll talk about it later. Obviously we don’t want those two kids to sit down. That’s probably what we’re going to do. There’s no need for those two to sit down for three weeks.”
Salomonsson, who was recalled after Neal Pionk suffered an injury, played in nine games with the Jets. Although he didn’t record a point, the 21-year-old looked steady alongside Dylan Samberg during the second pairing, something the organization could see for years to come. Salomonsson has played in thirteen games for Winnipeg this season.
Salomonsson was taken 55th overall in the second round of the 2022 NHL Entry Draft and has one goal and seven assists in 25 games with Manitoba this season.
Phillips, 24, was selected 141st overall in the fifth round of the 2020 NHL Entry Draft by Chicago. This season, he scored three goals and 12 assists in 35 games with the Moose.
