According to The ElectricApple is considering using a transparent polyimide film (CPI) to protect the foldable glass that makes up the iPhone Fold’s inner display.
The alternative, a polyethylene terephthalate (PET) coating, is preferred by Samsung and is used on the current Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip devices. But Apple seems ready to do things differently.
Quoting an unnamed source, The Elec says that Apple still hasn’t decided what type of display film it will use, but it will most likely choose CPI because it is less likely to scratch or damage. It is thought that Apple wants to ensure that its first foldable iPhone will stand out from the crowd thanks to its display.
That would match previous reports that Apple will use a new, crease-free foldable display technology. Although the crease has become smaller in recent years on competing models, it is still visible under the wrong lighting conditions. It’s thought that Apple’s display will be wrinkle-free no matter how it’s held.

That, combined with the scratch-free technology, could make the foldable iPhone the premium option to beat for Samsung and other phone makers.
