Jack Draper drops out of the Australian Open due to an arm injury

Jack Draper withdrew from the upcoming Australian Open on Friday due to a bone bruise in his arm that has sidelined him since the 2025 US Open.

“I have had this injury for a long time,” Draper said in a social media post. “I am in the very last phase of the [rehab] process, and to get back on the court so quickly and play five sets of tennis again just doesn’t seem like the smart decision for me and my tennis.

“It always seems to make me more resilient, to make me even hungrier to become the player I want to become. I’m looking forward to getting back out there and competing in 2026. I want to thank everyone for all the support in 2025. It means the world to me to compete and play there on tour with the other guys. I’m looking forward to doing that again.”

The 24-year-old Briton called it “the most difficult, challenging and complex” injury of his career to date.

That’s saying a lot considering Draper’s litany of physical issues throughout his young career. The world number 10 also suffered shoulder and abdominal problems in 2023 and 2024. He managed to stay injury-free from January to the end of August last season, during which he won his first Masters 1000 title in Indian Wells. Draper seemed well on his way to a berth in the Nitto ATP Finals until this current injury knocked him out of the US Open.
