Oude Dominion has always been in his head.
Even through the monthly autumn camp, Curt Cignetti has focused on the week one opponent. The second -year head coach constantly circled back to the importance of the week one tilt with the princes.
After more than 20 practices in the sizzling heat of Bloomington, IU football focus focus on the opener of the regular season. The Hoosiers are confronted with a program that holds Curt Cignetti to a large extent.
“I really respect Old Dominion,” said Cignetti on Monday afternoon. “We talked about the history of the Sun Belt teams, current members of the Sun Belt and the Blue Bloods they have defeated.”
In recent months there has been a chat about the schedule of Indiana, or the lack thereof. Cignetti, however, has familiar with Old Dominion and knows his possibilities to repel a power conference opponent.
Last year, Old Dominion brought South Carolina to the thread in Columbia and lost with a narrow margin of 23-19. Since 2018, the monarchs have also hit Virginia Tech twice twice.
Despite the conversation about the planning, these facts live in Cignetti’s brain. At the mention of Old Dominion alone, he spoke about their recent success against teams comparable to Indiana.
After praising the opponent, Cignetti expressed excitement about seeing his team in game mode in game mode this week.
“I like where we get out of the camp in terms of how we practice,” said Cignetti. “The identity is set a bit during the season as soon as you start playing the games.”
Although expectations are higher, Cignetti remained focused on the attention to the task that must be in the entire camp.
Just like last season, Indiana focused on the next game of the week.
Last fall was never a moment when one of the players looked past their opponent. The focus of Cignetti on the present was clear in July, without there no desire to look beyond Old Dominion.
“I only focus on Old Dominion,” said Cignetti after the first training. “I’m not worried about someone else.”
An important aspect of autumn camp practices is getting better while staying healthy. Indiana struggled in the spring and lost Michigan Transfer -wide recipient Tyler Morris to an injury.
Indiana remained healthy in August, apart from slight injuries to a few defensive players and one attacking Lineman. The Hoisiers gave that stability the opportunity to grow together as a unit during the autumn camp.
Cignetti emphasized learning about his team during the autumn practices. However, he knows that it is time to blur the external sound and that games are decided across the field.
“You establish the habits that you are going to wear through the season, installing, developing players and learning about your team,” said Cignetti. “Now it’s time to wage war. It is now a serious matter.”
Although Old Dominion may not be the most formidable opponent on Indiana’s schedule, the message of Cignetti remains constantly.
“It’s all about us and our preparation, having the right mindset and going outside and playing our brand ball with a bunch of new faces.”
