Two weekend goals made it happen Bryan Mbeumo (£8.2m) to become the most bought Fantasy Premier League (FPL) player ahead of Gameweek 10. By Wednesday afternoon he had already reached 750,000 purchases.
However, while he has an advantage over Manchester United’s more expensive teammate Bruno Fernandes (£8.9m) for points, signing the Cameroon international is not an easy decision.
Using basic numbers, deeper statistics from our members zone and some additional context, let’s try to determine which midfielder is the best.
RECENT FORM
It’s not just Mbeumo’s brace, but also his goal in Gameweek 8 at Anfield, which followed an assist against Sunderland. While Fernandes has made just one attacking return in the past four gameweeks.
During this period, Mbeumo has dominated his colleague in both goals and points, with both creating an equal number of big chances (two).
| [GAMEWEEKS 6 TO 9] | FPL POINTS | ATTEMPTS | SHOT ON GOAL | BIG CHANCES | CHANCES MADE | xG (DELTA) | xGI (DELTA) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| FERNANDES | 14 | 10 | 4 | 2 | 9 | 1.54 (-1.54) | 2.17 (-1.17) |
| MBEUMO | 32 | 8 | 6 | 4 | 7 | 1.05 (+1.95) | 1.82 (+2.18) |
Fernandes’ shots are more about quantity than quality, as Mbeumo compensates for his lesser effort by having high accuracy (85.7%).
Yet we are dealing here with a case of overperformance versus underperformance when it comes to expected goals (xG) and expected goal involvement (xGI).
Despite Gameweek 6’s worse FPL output, Fernandes has still surpassed Mbeumo for both. Still, it’s worth remembering that the latter, when at Brentford, had the biggest xG Delta of 2024/25 (+7.74), showing a recent history of beating the data.
