Bowen, Thiago, Saka: Buy, Hold or Sell in Gameweek 25?

Bowen, Thiago, Saka: Buy, Hold or Sell in Gameweek 25?

5 minutes, 25 seconds Read

Gameweek 25 presents several transfer dilemmas for Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers.

Based on matches, form and injuries, these players are most often transferred to (TI(R), below) and away (TO(R), below).

But whether it is a good idea remains open to debate.

Here we share our thoughts on who to buy, hold and sell in Gameweek 25.

JARROD BOWEN

FPL notes: Minteh early sub, Rutter “boost” + Bowen's shots 3

Jarrod Bowen (£7.6m) is one of the most in-form strikers in the FPL at the moment.

The England international has amassed 36 points over the past six gameweeks, the second most in attack, thanks to three goals, one assist, four defensive contribution points (DefCon) and seven bonus points.

His final goal, although somewhat fortunate, took his total to eleven attacking goals, a respectable number considering West Ham United’s position in the table.

It means Bowen is highly eligible for Gameweek 25, when the Hammers take on Burnley.

They will then play back-to-back home games against Manchester United and Bournemouth, the latter of whom has the worst defensive record in the division.

The benefits for Bowen himself are as follows: he regularly plays the full 90 minutes, takes penalties following the departure of Lucas Paqueta, is prominent on corners/free kicks and has been included in just 8.9% of FPL squads, marking him as a differential.

That said, he has managed just thirteen shots in the last six Gameweeks, a number bettered by eight other forwards.

His position on the pitch is also quite wide, especially when Nuno Espirito Santo uses a more orthodox centre-forward, i.e. Taty Castellanos (£5.5 million).

That said, goals aren’t Bowen’s only route to points, with assists and the occasional DefCons also being factors to consider.

Beyond the stats, Bowen also passes the eye test, making him a solid differential option going forward.

VERDICT: BUY

MARCOS SEENCE

Best Senesi Replacements in FPL 13

Now that Bournemouth has managed to fend off interest in the country Mark Senesi (£4.8m) last month, this could be the ideal time for Fantasy managers to include him in their squads.

It is crucial that Andoni Iraola’s team is above us Fixture sticker during the next six Gameweeks.

Then of course there’s Senesi’s DefCon potential.

The Argentine has collected DefCon points in 19 of his 23 starts, with his 82.6% success rate on the season the highest of any Fantasy player.

He is also quite creative for a centre-back and ranks joint 12th in his position for chances created (19).

Defensively, Bournemouth have kept just two clean sheets in their last 15 games, but they did beat Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux on Saturday.

They have also been given fewer big chances than any other team at home, including Arsenal, so the upcoming meetings with Aston Villa, Sunderland and Brentford have added appeal.

It suggests Senesi could be a cheap defender, although it’s worth noting he has seven bookings. Anyone who collects ten yellow cards before their club has played 32 matches will receive a two-match suspension.

VERDICT: BUY

IGOR THIAGO

FPL notes: Thiago brace + knock, Collins assist + Kelleher penalty save 4

Igor Thiago (£7.1m) is undoubtedly one of the Fantasy success stories of 2025/2026.

He has found the back of the net 16 times so far, the most of any player except Erling Haaland (£15.0 million), averages 5.4 points per game.

Furthermore, his 52 shots in the penalty area and 28 Opta-defined ‘big chances’ also place him in second place.

However, Thiago has now failed to score or assist in his last three outings against Chelsea, Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa, having previously plundered 29 points in two games.

In Gameweek 24, he failed to even register a shot, instead prioritizing his defensive duties at Brentford down to 10 men.

Keith Andrews’ side have some pretty tough games ahead of them, but they are heading into a very favorable run of games from Gameweek 27 onwards, after which Thiago becomes an easy ‘buy’.

For the current owners, he remains a player to keep, with transfers particularly costly at this point in the season.

VERDICT: RETAIN, BUY IN GAMEWEEK 27

BUKYO SAKA

FPL Notes: Saka injury, 2

Bukayo Saka (£10.0m) has produced just six points in the last four gameweeks.

The premium midfielder did not even appear on the pitch on Saturday after picking up an injury during the warm-up at Elland Road.

Although the injury is not considered serious, it appears he will miss a few games.

As reported by Simon Collings, Saka will be hoping to return to fitness in time for the North London derby in Gameweek 27.

If that timeline is correct, Saka would miss Arsenal’s Double Gameweek 26.

Even if he returns earlier than expected, Mikel Arteta has been noticeably more cautious with Saka’s playing time of late, as evidenced by his benchings against Nottingham Forest and Bournemouth.

It’s not like he’s schmoozing anyway, so Saka feels like an easy ‘sell’.

Switch to Declan Rice (£7.5m) or Saka’s replacement on the wing, Call Maduyke (£6.8m), would make sense as Arsenal are now ‘doubling down’. Alternatively, you can add another Gunners defender to your squad and replace Saka with a midfielder from another club.

VERDICT: SELL

MICKY VAN DE VEN

FPL notes: Many routes to switches for van de Ven 2

Micky van den Ven (£4.5m) has missed Tottenham Hotspur’s last two games in all competitions due to injury but is expected back for Saturday’s trip to Manchester United.

“Micky is a little one. I fully expect him to be available for Man Utd but unfortunately he couldn’t make it for this game.” – Thomas Frank on Micky van de Ven

But even if Van de Ven is fit for Gameweek 25, Spurs remain inconsistent, making the clean sheet very unpredictable.

In their last nine league games they have kept just two shutouts against Crystal Palace and Brentford.

In that period, they rank 16th for actual goals conceded and 11th for expected goals conceded (xGC).

With the club also engulfed by an injury crisis and some tough fixtures ahead, the Dutch centre-back could easily be moved on even if he brings a bit of a goal threat.

That’s because there are similarly priced defenders, like Senesi above, who will be a much bigger draw in the coming weeks.

Gameweek 31 could be a better time to think about Van de Ven, when Spurs are top.

VERDICT: SELL
