Andrey Santos has emerged as an ambitious target for Man Utd

According to the Spanish newspaper, Manchester United are considering a move for Chelsea midfielder Andrey Santos Transfers.

The Red Devils focused mainly on strengthening their attack last summer. Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko were signed to strengthen their forward department alongside goalkeeper Senne Lammens and defender Diego Leon.

Man Utd are likely to look for a defensive midfielder next year Transfers claim the club have made a ‘determined’ move to secure the services of Santos, who is looking for regular game time to develop.

United are considering submitting a bid for the Brazilian in the coming months to convince the Blues. The London giants turned down a £37 million package for the midfielder during the last transfer window.

The Blues view him as a key player in their ranks and a significant transfer fee would be required to prize him away.

Winter deal unlikely

Chelsea and United have done transfer business in the past year. The Blues signed Jadon Sancho on loan last summer with a conditional purchase obligation. The clause became active earlier this summer, but the London team paid a fine to terminate the deal.

Enzo Maresca’s side eventually signed Alejandro Garnacho from United. Garnacho fell out of favor under manager Ruben Amorim and he was sidelined from first-team training before moving to Stamford Bridge ahead of the summer transfer deadline.

United may want to take advantage of the good partnership to buy Santos, but a deal seems unlikely. The Brazilian would be a great signing for the Red Devils as he can operate as a defensive, central or attacking midfielder. He is a very versatile player.

The 21-year-old was regularly on the bench at the start of the season but has played three of the last four Premier League games under Maresca. Cole Palmer’s injury has contributed to the increase in playing time for graduate Vasco da Gama.

Therefore, he has started to develop into a key player under Maresca, and the Blues hierarchy may not consider his sale. United could guarantee the Brazilian a starting role in midfield, but a deal could be difficult to complete in January.

The Red Devils are unlikely to make any major mid-season spend due to PSR concerns, and could wait until the summer to tempt the Blues with a big-money bid for the midfielder, described as ‘spectacular’ by Estevao Willian.
