Hull City are close to signing Seny Dieng on a free transfer from Middlesbrough, according to reporter Alan Nixon.
Hull City are looking to boost their Championship promotion with a pair of additions in the January transfer window.
HCAFC still will be functioning under EFL transfer restrictions. They are not allowed to spend transfer fees on new players, and those restrictions will only be lifted at the end of the campaign.
However, after some creative work over the summer, the Tigers are now ready to finalize a new addition early in next term. Write on his PatreonAccording to reporter Alan Nixon, goalkeeper Seny Dieng is ready to complete a move to the MKM Stadium.
Nixon says Middlesbrough have reached an agreement that will see Dieng’s contract end 18 months earlier. It means Hull City can sign him for free within the restrictions placed on him by the EFL.
More smart things for Hull City with Seny Dieng on the way
Considering the restrictions they were under, Hull City did very well with a busy summer transfer window. They made good use of the credit market and made some smart free transfer deals.
With the signing of Dieng they continue in this impressive way. He may not have performed as well as hoped during his time at Middlesbrough, with injuries affecting his involvement and preventing him from truly cementing his place in the side.
However, the Senegal international was an excellent shot-stopper at QPR. He proved he can be an asset in the division and at 31 he still has some good years ahead of him as a goalkeeper.
HCAFC are off to a strong start to the January window thanks to an early move for a free transfer deal. Sergej Jakirovic hopes more players can follow Dieng through the door to strengthen their bid for a play-off spot.
A much needed addition at Hull City
Heading into January, many Hull City fans would have highlighted the goalkeeper role as one that needs strengthening. Ivor Pandur’s starting position is not yet quite at the level of last season.
As such, new competition for Jakirovic’s place in the squad could get more out of him. And if Pandur can’t step it up, they have an experienced Championship goalkeeper in Dieng who will be determined to seize his opportunity when it comes.

| Games | Goals against | Clean sheets |

Kicking off the window with a quick signing should set the tone for a positive January in East Yorkshire.
While the transfer business continues in the background, Jakirovic will be hoping to start the new year with a win next time. HCAFC host a stuttering Hull City in their first match of 2026.
