Derby County boss John Eustace say “exciting” midfielder Oscar Fraulo has been a long-term target for the club due to his impending arrival.
Derby County had a busy summer preparing for the 2025/2026 season. However, with the January transfer window upon us, DCFC will be back in business.
The Rams will feel like a few smart deals can bolster their potential playoff push. And it looks like one man coming to Pride Park is Danish midfielder Oscar Fraulo.
Last week, reports stated that Derby County would sign Fraulo on a permanent basis from German side Borussia Mönchengladbach. A deal appears to have been done, with head coach John Eustace effectively confirming Fraulo’s impending signing, stating he was a long-term target for the club while speaking to Derbyshire Live.
‘The club has been looking at him for a long time’ he said. “He is a good, young, exciting player. We will have to wait and see. He has a great reputation in Europe. He is a box-to-box number eight and a player for the future.”
Derby County will hope Oscar Fraulo’s long-term interest pays off
As Eustace says, Fraulo has been a player on Derby County’s radar for some time. In reality, Dominic Dietrich from BBC Radio Derby says the interest predates the boss’s appointment earlier this year.
That would indicate that he is a player desired by the hierarchy, and not the boss. Hopefully Fraulo can quickly make a good impression on Eustace and show that he can have a positive impact on the first team phase.
Eustace indicates that he is someone for the future, rather than someone who will immediately fall by the wayside. At the age of 22, he was loaned out much of his senior experience to FC Utrecht, as opportunities were limited at Borussia Mönchengladbach.
The hope will be that he can take the time to settle into Championship football and then make his presence known at DCFC.
Oscar Fraulo’s senior career statistics
One in, one out in Derby County’s midfield?
As Fraulo prepares to join Derby County for a reported €300,000 to €400,000, it will be intriguing to see if that forces anyone out the exit door in the January transfer window.
Lewis Travis is back from injury, but David Ozoh is still on the road to recovery. The other options include Liam Thompson, Bobby Clark and Ebou Adams.
Adding Fraulo to the mix could be someone’s turn, especially if Ozoh can return to fitness sooner or later. One man whose future could be in doubt is that of former skipper Adams, given his departure as captain and his less frequent role in the starting XI.
That said, loanee Clark has been linked with Celtic. If he is recalled and sold by RB Salzburg, DCFC will need another midfield signing before any further changes are considered.
