The wooden house at 6 Cecil St, Frankston, is for sale after a fire.

A fire-damaged Frankston home listed as an excellent opportunity to renovate or develop could sell for more than $1 million.

The five-bedroom wooden house at 6 Cecil St has a range of $950,000 – $1.045 million.

Luke Magree, of O’Brien Frankston, said he believed the fire was caused by Christmas tree decorations about a year ago. Fortunately, no one was injured in the fire.

Mr Magree said the home’s owner of more than a decade was hoping the circa-1950s house would be bought by someone looking to restore it, but he also expected many investors, renovators and developers due to the 1,000 square meter block size.

Within 48 hours of the home being put on the market, investors from as far away as Sydney had contacted him about the property, along with other buyers, including one hoping to renovate and remodel the house.

The address within the Frankston Secondary College zone is also likely to appeal to families.

Parklands including the George Pentland Botanical Gardens, hospitals, Foot St shops, bus routes, Monash University and Frankston’s CBD are all close by too.

The house was previously a family home.

Mr Magee described the house as a rare offering in the area.

“It’s probably in the best part of Frankston, apart from the beach, and it’s just flat, usable land

blue chip Frankston, right in the middle of everything in the high school zone,” Mr Magee said.

The original layout of the house included multiple living zones around a central kitchen.

Mr Magee said the offer was a good opportunity to demolish the existing property and build three or four large townhouses on the block, subject to council approval.

Or, according to rough estimates, he said renovating the house might cost at least $150,000, with a higher bill of $300,000-$400,000 if the new owner wanted to go all out.

“The living room where the fire happened, that front living room is already back in the frame,” Mr. Magee said.
