Hon, Aiava wins via US Open qualification

Priscilla Hon and Destanee Aiava Complete successful qualifying campaigns in New York, making the US Open Main Draw from Australia Contingent for 15.

Priscilla Hon and Destanee Aiava build at the US Open on their impressive seasons.

After saving five match points against Victora Mboko in the last qualifying round to book her place in the Main Draw van Wimbledon, Hon qualified for a second straight Grand Slam at Flushing Meadows.

The Queenslander achieved that performance easier this time, with a 6-3 6-3 victory over the Hanne Vandewinkel of Belgium, who marked Hon’s third consecutive straight victory in New York.

The World No.128 HON was also a winner about Nuria Brancaccio and Jule Niemeier in this week’s qualifying campaign.

In the meantime, Aiava needed two and a half hours to pass past the German Emme Seideli in her final qualifying match.

With the 5-7 6-1 7-6 (6) victory, the Melburnian qualified for a second consecutive year in New York.

It contributes to a career-best season for Aiava, which qualified for the Australian Open en-COMMNER with impressive versions at other tournaments-Was A Yoker Sign Recipient at Roland Garros.

Aiava, currently ranked on World No.168, fought in three sets through each US Open 2025 qualification match.

Earlier in the week she struck the eighth placed Czech Sara Bejlek, for a three -set victory over Justina Mikulskyte van Lithuania.

While James Duckworth, Jason Kubler and Emerson Jones fell with the last qualifying obstacle, Hon and Aiava added to an impressive Australian presence in the last Grand Slam of the season.

Fifteen Australians will start in the American open singles main tracts – eight men and seven women – when the game starts on Monday (Aest).

That group is led by World No.8 Alex de Minaur, who recently added a 10^one ATP Singles Trophy in Washington DC.
