Guardians 5, Rockies 0: attack disappears in Cleveland

3 minutes, 22 seconds Read

The Rockies spread 10 times, were held on three hits, managed to get one runner to second base and fell 5-0 in the serial final against Cleveland on Wednesday evening. The game lasted exactly 120 minutes because the Bats from Colorado were unable to get something going and the loss the first time in Rockies’s history was that they were excluded by Cleveland.

The Rockies hit 80 losses and fell to 28-80, while Cleveland returned to .500 at 54-54.

Bullpen Day Baffles Rockies Bats

In the match, Cleveland -Starter Kolby Allard had not had more than three strikeouts in an outing this season. Although most of his performances were relieved, this was his seventh of three innings or more. In a constant attempt to stimulate the self-respect of opposing pitchers, even those such as Allard who are not known for their strikeout skills, the Rockies threw out five times and went in the first three innings against Allard.

Tyler Freeman received the Rockies first hit, a single in the fourth inning, but was thrown away to steal second. Allard threw 3 1⁄ ⁄3 Top -free innings with one hit and five strikeouts to help start Cleveland.

Five more Cleveland relievers combined to throw 5 2⁄ ⁄3 scoreless innings, which only allow two hits – singles by Warming Bernabel and Orlando Arcia – and a walk to Hunter Goodman. They also combined for five own strikeouts, making it 10 a day. Arcia, Goodman, Jordan Beck and Brenton Doyle all had two strikeouts each.

Freeland fights against illness

Kyle Freeland did not look good on Wednesday. Not in terms of pitching performance, but he actually looked like he felt terrible. Each pitch looked like an enormous amount of energy was needed, even though Freeland had an empty tank.

Outside of three hits in the first inning, including a two-run Homer from the bat from David Fry, freeland collected enough grit to endure three innings by throwing three-up, three-down innings in the second and thirds.

In the second he ran to the first to cover when the warming of Bernabel raised a grounder from Nolan Jones. He stopped briefly and seemed injured, which resulted in a visit by Interim manager Warren Schaeffer, Pitching coach Darryl Scott and the Rockies Training Staff.

He was able to stay indoors, hit the 40-pitch and to avoid an earlier call to the bullpen, which was an arm in the bull pen after the action of Tyler Kinley earlier in the day. When he was drawn, Thomas Harding of MLB.com called the reason as “Illness effects.”

Mejia shines in long relief

Jaden Hill lit Freeland in the fourth inning. Hill gave two free runs and a single, as well as a SAC fly, which helped the Guardians to take a 3-0 lead.

Juan Mejia received the call in the fifth inning and absolutely dominated Cleveland. In three innings he pulled the guardians in order, without allowing a hit or a walk. He hit four of the nine batters with whom he was confronted. He only needed 32 throws, of which 30 were 4-Seam Fastballs. That pitch produced eight fluctuations and miss. When he got Austin Hedges to swing on a 96.3 MPH 4-Seam Fastball to end the seventh, Mejia was pumped up and celebrated his fourth strikeout as he walked off the hill.

Cleveland had recorded four hits through seven innings. Victor Vodnik came in the eighth inning and doubled that total, and stood up four singles, allowing the Guardians to extend their lead to 5-0.

Not that it mattered. If the Rockies can’t score, they can’t win.
