Crawford has done a lot of hands-on work at previous sales, but this year she will be offering seven yearlings for sale under her own name.
This step is another achievement for the rider who has already made her mark in several other areas of the harness racing industry.
Crawford is a race-winning junior driver best known for her work transforming hundreds of former racehorses into riding horses.
In her yearling sales project, the Otago rider will be able to apply a range of the skills she has built up.
“I enjoy working with, handling and training young horses the most, so I really enjoy the sales preparation,” Crawford said.
Crawford has partnered with Central Otago breeder Rusty Nevill prior to previous sales, with the pair achieving some strong results in recent years.
The association started when the couple bumped into each other.
“I met Rusty at the Cromwell races and he asked if I would be interested in taking some yearlings from the sale.”
“He called me later and asked if I was serious and I said yes.”
“I haven’t really pursued it, but Malcolm Little asked me to do his too and I’m doing one for Dean Lawrence too.”
Crawford’s design for this year’s sale includes two of the three yearlings in the catalog of world record holder and first-year sire Bulldog Hanover.
With the speedster already proving to be a popular choice with buyers in North America, there is already a lot of interest in its yearling sales prospects.
“My two are very nice stallions and I really think they are worth a look.”
“There’s been quite a bit of interest in them, I’ve had people wanting pictures and videos of them.”
Crawford’s design includes two fillies from Down on the coast.
There are also trotting colts passing by One above Da Moon And Habibi Inta and a filly along King of the North.
Crawford has had some strong results with Nevill in recent sales, but this year she looks set to do even better.
“We have had some good results in the past, but I feel like we have more of those nice type of horses this year.”
With the yearlings leaving later this month, Crawford will not have to combine her farm work with sales preparations.
But horses will not be out of the picture, as the rider is a keen rider and regularly rides on cavalcades.
