Gabriel Martinelli has said that he welcomes increased competition for a starting role in Arsenal’s Front Three after the club’s summer recruitment.
The attacking options of the club have been reinforced by a trio of high-profile additions, with Slovenia striker Viktor Gyökeres recruited from sporty, Noni Madueke brought in from Chelsea and winger Ebereechi Eze from Crystal Palace.
Both Madueke and Eze can work in the preferred position of Martinelli along the left wing, where Mikel Arteta is also able to appeal to Leandro Trossard.
Limits
While Martinelli has regularly appeared for Arsenal under Arteta, his most important characteristic remains a rough pace. His limitations were emphasized in the defeat of the club in Liverpool before the international break, where the 24-year-old, against an improvised right back in Dominik Szoboszlai, could be expected to make a more competitive contribution.
Arsenal is said to be open to the sale of the Brazil -international this summer, with AC Milan among those to show interest, but potential vooragers were put off by the £ 60 million of the club.
Yet Martinelli, who competitions with Rodrygo and Vinicius JR for a place on the left of the Brazil attack, is no stranger to fight for his place and insists that the competition is a good thing for each team.
‘We are happy that the club is looking for the best players in the competition’
“As far as Arsenal is concerned, it is here in the national team,” said Martinelli. “If you ask me if it is good to have Vini or Rodrygo in the national team, I will certainly say yes, because he will help the team to win titles. And if we want to win, we need quality players.
“It is the same with Arsenal. I am also very happy with the arrival of Eze and Madueke.
“So we are happy that the club is looking for the best players in the competition so that we can try to win.”
Arsenal host Nottingham Forest in the Emirates Stadium on Saturday lunch in what will be a postecoglou’s first game that is in charge of the visitors.
