Fulham fans have reacted to the Carabao Cup quarter-final draw that saw them eliminate Newcastle United.

Marco Silva and his players were lucky to reach the last eight as they needed a second-half equalizer against League One Wycombe and then penalties to finally get through on Tuesday night.

On Wednesday night, Newcastle United became one of five clubs to join Fulham, Brentford and Cardiff in the quarter-finals, with Palace, Chelsea, Man City and Arsenal also progressing.

Just four days after Fulham fans saw Newcastle United (eventually) deservedly beat Silva’s team in the Premier League, last night they became the last two clubs to withdraw from the draw, with Arsenal v Palace, Cardiff v Chelsea and Man City v Brentford having already been withdrawn. Luckily, Newcastle United got the seventh ball out, so it’s Fulham’s home ground.

Another major positive of attracting Fulham is the number of seats they will (not!) take.

Only 1,700 Fulham fans bought tickets for St James’ Park last weekend for a Saturday match at 3pm.

With the Carabao Cup quarter-finals being played on a weeknight a week before Christmas, I honestly don’t think we’ll see them taking the maximum 4,900 tickets that Fulham fans would be entitled to.

So this should mean thousands more Newcastle United fans get into the quarter-final, compared to last night when Spurs fans won the full allocation of 4,900.

Fulham fans comment on the Newcastle United cup draw through their comments FulhamWeb And Friends of Fulham message boards:

‘Terrible draw, but we have to go for it.’

‘Away to Newcastle is a bad draw, while Chelsea got an easy game in Cardiff.

I saw Newcastle using their ‘bullying’ tactics against Spurs, with the referee (and the linos) favoring the home side. They will do the same to Fulham, the worst refereed team in the league.

Despite this, Fulham must be prepared and have a plan to hurt them.

We have to play against a strong team and be ready for a physical battle.

We looked lethargic against lowly Wycombe and need to get our form back.”

‘Not the best of them all, but certainly the worst from a traveling perspective, a week away to Newcastle a week before Christmas.

The only benefit is that the Forest game is on Monday the following week, rather than on the weekend?

The draw seems favorable for the four bigger teams that are in the semi-finals.’

‘Terrible to have to travel so close to Christmas, but Arsenal, Manchester City and Chelsea would have been even worse. Actually think Newcastle are much more beatable than all of them, and Palace probably didn’t want to either now that they’ve gone up a level.’

‘I can’t complain.

Besides being three miles from the field when you’re seated, it’s a great town and a great night out.

Geordies are always hospitable.

I’m predicting pens again.’

‘A lot of stairs to climb as an away fan.

I don’t want to travel all that way to see two second teams playing what looks like a bad friendly.

I admire the people who do go, but don’t complain, because you get what you expect.’

“Has anyone seen any of the other games? The only Premier League team to play a decent game was Palace, the rest had reserves and you could clearly see why they don’t play often. Most managers seem to believe that their best players can get injured in what they consider a tinpot cup competition.’

“I think we’ll beat them.”

‘Actually not a great draw. I watched the Palace game last night and the football they played was just sublime, pass, move, drive, just fantastic. I really hope that Silva can fix Parkerball v2’s slow build-up game and become more adventurous and less predictable’

‘A lot can happen between now and then. Newcastle have more games to play and a smaller squad.”

‘Cup matches are strange beasts, it doesn’t always suit the form team. I’m just glad it wasn’t Citeh.’

“It’s a conspiracy to demote us.”

‘We have to go for it, otherwise our players and staff have no choice and the Europe word of 2010 has now come true, which was everywhere in the house where all Roy players bought in, just like us supporters, and it was a wonderful season.

Everyone BELIEVE BELIEVE

‘The figures were issued in alphabetical order, but using the home team in the matches played as recently as Wednesday. If they had waited until all the tapes were finished, the numbers would have been the same.
1, Arsenal
2,Brentford
3,Cardiff
4,Chelsea
5, Crystal Palace
6, Fulham
7,Man’s City
8, Newcastle
We would have been at home in Cardiff.’

‘And if your aunt had been your uncle. she would have had coughing fits. (Thanks to my grandfather.)’

“We beat Newcastle for the most part recently, apart from the first ten minutes when they looked good, but it got out of hand and we took over.

Bassey was their mother and set two goals for them.

In the second half we were the only likely winners at 1-1, Newcastle were poor, but Bassey killed us stone dead in the match with that second incomprehensible mistake.

I imagine he won’t do that again and I see absolutely no reason why we couldn’t go there and get a top flight win.”

‘With four balls left in the pot I was hoping for Brentford. But this is fine and I think the only times they’ve played us off the park lately have been with just ten men.

Think of it this way. What are the chances of Newcastle winning this competition twice in a row? Pretty slim considering it’s Newcastle and they now have European football to distract them. Only three teams can stop them, we are one of them and we have first dibs.

That logic may not withstand rigorous statistical scrutiny, but it is best to remain positive.’

‘The maggots can be defeated IMO.’

‘Their match on Sunday 14th December is away in Sunderland so it may be a while before they play us.’

“Hopefully some of our injured players will be back by then. We didn’t deserve to lose last Saturday. Cup matches are different. COYW! ‘
