Patrick Bamford has been spotted at Coventry City’s training ground as he continues to look for a new club. according to Mike McGrath.

Coventry City are flying high at the top of the Championship in an electric start to the 2025/26 season.

The Sky Blues have set the second tier on fire as they press on in a bid to reach the Premier League after a handful of near misses. Frank Lampard’s group is flourishing, despite a relatively quiet transfer period compared to previous years.

However, it seems that the prospect of expanding the ranks is not out of the question.

Writing at X, reporter Mike McGrath has said that free agent striker Patrick Bamford has been spotted at Coventry City’s training ground. It is not indicated whether this is a training stint to stay fit or as a potential asset.

The 32-year-old has been without a club since leaving Leeds United in the summer transfer window. Are agreement was terminated to facilitate the hunt for a new club outside the window.

It remains to be seen whether he will join the Sky Blues, but this sighting could be a clue to an impending deal.

Why Coventry City could sign Patrick Bamford amid training ground observations

Naturally, Bamford’s status as a free agent means he is available to sign at any time.

However, there is another factor at play: Coventry City’s squad list. When the EFL squad lists were published in September, the Sky Blues named 24 players on a 25-man list, leaving the door open for a late registration.

It means that if the Sky Blues want to sign Bamford – or any free agent for that matter – they have the space in the squad to do so.

A valuable addition to Coventry City’s front line?

Bamford has been one of the most recognizable strikers in the EFL in recent times.

He started out at Chelsea and gained experience in EFL loans at MK Dons, Derby County and Middlesbrough before getting opportunities in the Premier League. He would eventually join Boro permanently and moved to Leeds United in 2018.

Patrick Bamford’s Leeds United record

Bamford would go on to star for the Whites, flourishing under Marcelo Bielsa and inspiring their rise to the Premier League. He also found success in the top flight at Elland Road and even earned an England cap amid his good form.

Injury problems and a fall down the pecking order ended in his departure from Leeds United. However, in addition to his vast experience, Bamford would bring a strong holding-up game to Coventry City and, when at his best, a clinical finishing ability.

Eyes will be opened to further developments as speculation surrounding a Sky Blues deal emerges.
