Barcelona boss Hansi Flick believes match-winner Raphinha’s mentality helped the Blaugrana to victory in the Supercopa de Espana final against Real Madrid.
In a crazy match at King Abdullah Sport City’s Alinma Bank Stadium, Raphinha scored the winning goal for Barcelona in the 73rd minute, which also saw Frenkie de Jong sent off.
Raphinha had also opened the scoring nine minutes before half-time, but his goal sparked a series of goals and ended a dramatic 45 minutes between the two Clasico rivals.
Madrid drew level through Vinicius Junior’s stunning run and finish before Robert Lewandowski and Gonzalo Garcia came into action as the match went into half-time at 2-2.
However, Barcelona’s Brazilian number 11 emerged victorious, helping the Blaugrana beat Madrid in a third successive final for the first time in their club history.
Raphinha also became only the second player to ever score four goals in a single edition of the Supercopa de Espana, after Aritz Aduriz in 2015 against Barcelona.
“His mentality is impressive and we have others too, he influences the whole team,” Flick told Movistar.
“He missed the first chance but took advantage of the second and gave us confidence. We were under a lot of pressure, as you saw.”

Raphinha also finished with team-high totals for shots (five), shots into the box (four), with his performance key in helping Barcelona to a record-extending 16th Supercopa crown.
There was another impressive performance up front from Lewandowski, whose poor finish saw him score for the third straight game in the league.
He has now scored 10 goals in 20 appearances in all competitions this season, but the Poland international remains focused on helping Barcelona win as many trophies as possible.
“We are very happy, another title, every time we play against Madrid it is a big match,” Lewandowski added.
“We played well in the first half, the second too. We hoped for more goals, but we won and that’s the most important thing.
“Madrid played very low blocks and we try to find the goal area, sometimes we need a little more patience, if we cross we also have a chance to score.
“The most important thing is that we won and that we have another title.”
Barcelona, who are four points clear in LaLiga, are back in action next Thursday, with a clash against LaLiga 2 leaders Racing Santander in the last 16 of the Copa del Rey.
