Diogo Dalot has been in impressive form for Manchester United of late, but that hasn’t stopped the club from planning reinforcements for the position. The Portuguese right-back has scored one goal and three assists in 25 appearances in all competitions this season.
Dalot operated as a right wing-back and left wing-back under former national coach Ruben Amorim, who lost his job at the beginning of this year. Following the arrival of agent Michael Carrick, the Portuguese right-back has returned to his natural position and has also impressed.
The 26-year-old was on target in Saturday’s 2-0 Premier League win over Tottenham Hotspurs, setting up Bruno Fernandes’ goal. Recent reports have suggested that Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are keeping a close eye on the player, although the Bavarians’ interest has since been refuted.
Nevertheless, the Red Devils are keeping their options open and it now appears they have identified a Premier League youngster as Dalot’s long-term replacement.
United want Kayode
According to TEAMtalkUnited are among a number of clubs keeping a close eye on Brentford right-back Michael Kayode. The report states: “TEAMtalk can confirm that Manchester United and Newcastle United have joined the growing list of clubs tracking Brentford’s outstanding right-back Michael Kayode, as interest in the 21-year-old continues to grow across Europe.”
“United are weighing up their long-term plans in this position, with Diogo Dalot linked with a possible move this summer. Newcastle, meanwhile, face their own dilemma with Livramento, whose situation is far from resolved.”
Manchester City were previously linked with a move for the Italian right-back, but the report now adds that both United and Newcastle have stepped up their efforts to secure his signature. Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) are also looking at Kayode.
The 21-year-old is under contract with Brentford until 2030, and the Bees are relaxed about the increasing interest in his signature. The west London club are under no obligation to let him go and are likely to demand more than £50 million for his signature. Meanwhile, the player is settled at the Gtech Community Stadium and is not pushing for an exit.
Who is Michael Kayode?
Kayode spent some of his formative years at Juventus, Gozzano and Fiorentina before impressing for the senior side at Florence and arriving at Brentford in January 2025. This season the young full-back has made 29 appearances in all competitions for the Bees, including 25 starts.

Like Dalot, the Italian is also adept at operating on the opposite flank and can also fit into a back three when required. Kayode’s versatility and his legendary long throws could also make him an excellent replacement for the Portuguese full-back.
Final thoughts
Kayode has made 37 Premier League appearances so far and fits in with United’s recent Premier League-focused transfer policy. The Red Devils are expected to prioritize midfield reinforcements this summer, but if they have money to spare, a move for the Italian could become a reality.
