After the event, Scott Wheeler, Corey Pronman and Max Bultman van Athletics Projected schedules for all five countries that attended the event. The Calgary Flames were well represented during this event and on these projected schedules, so let’s discuss what the outlook of Flames participated in the event and which are expected to represent their countries.
Zayne Parekh – Team Canada
The Flames set up Zayne Parekh with the ninth everywhere in the NHL entry 2024. Before this design, he was generally considered one of the best skaters in the classroom and possibly the best defensive prospect that is eligible to be set in 2024 after having set 33 goals and 63 assists in 66 Layers.
After he was set up, Parekh returned to the SaginaW Spirit of the OHL for the 2024-25 season, where he built his incredible campaign 2023-24. He scored another 33 goals and added 74 assists for 107 points in 61 games, so he scored the OHL’s leader in goals and Points among defenders for the second straight season.
For Parekh it is not a question if he has the talent to make this selection. He was not only a top 10 pick, but he was also arranged in fourth place Athletics‘s Best set up prospect rankings for 2025 (Top 100 prepared NHL Prospects Ranking: Schaefer, Misa, Demidov Lead Wheeler’s Summer 2025 list” AthleticsJuly 14, 2025).
The question is, more, will he play with the Flames this season in the NHL? With the flames that Mackenzie Weegar and Rasmus Andersson already have in their selection, there is reason to believe that the Flames will not want three attacking defenders on their right side. At the moment, however, the talent of Parekh does not feel to deny, and regardless of the schedule construction, it feels like he has an excellent chance to make the Flames selection after he immediately made an impact last season, scored his first career NHL goal in his first and only NHL match.
If he is a consistent part of the Flames -Line -Up, if he is a consistent part next season, it is unlikely that they will let him play juniors in the world with those who expect to be hunting for a Stanley Cup -Playoff place again. If this is the case, it would be a huge blow to Team Canada to possibly lose one of the best defenders in the tournament.
Cole Reeschy – Team Canada
The flames selected Cole Reeschy with the 18th-overal pick in the first round of the NHL entry 2025. He is a shorter but highly educated winger who last season the Western Hockey League (WHL) dominated for the Victoria Royals, 26 goals and a total of 92 points in 62 matches. His 92 points were the second most eligible players in the WHL last season.
Although Reeschy is exceptionally talented, he still needs time to develop his game before he is ready to play in the NHL. He has for the 2025-26 season dedicated to the University of North Dakota And will be one of the many players of Canadian Hockey League (CHL) who make the transition to Hockey College.
At the moment, Athletics Has him on the fourth rule of Canada, so there may be some potential that Hockey Canada chooses to go with an attacker such as Nashville Predators Prospect Brady Martin, which is perhaps better suited for a Bottom-Six role. The earlier international performances by Reschy, however, can give him the lead on some of the borderline boys trying to crack the schedule after five goals and eight points in five games on the Onder-18 IIHF World Juniors of last year.
Cullen Potter – Team USA
Cullen Potter was the second first round of the NHL entry 2025 Flames. They generally selected him 32nd after a strong first-year campaign at Arizona State University, where he had 13 goals and 22 points in 35 games.
AthleticsThe projected line-up is listed Potter as the third line center. Just like Rny, Potter is on the smaller side, but elite speed, mobility and playmaker help to make up for the lack of size. Taking care of this team is that he does not profile as the typical third line center, and with Team USA other options with more size and which may be better defensive, Potter needs a strong start of the season to strengthen his place.
In their schedule projection, however, Athletics noted that Potter was one of the biggest striking among Americans in the showcase and his history of eight points in seven games on the Onder-17 IIHF World Juniors and another eight points in seven games on the Onder-18 IIHF World Juniors could give him the lead on his greatest competition, Cole McKinney, who was not so impressive in one of these event.
Henry Mews – Team Canada
Henry Mews is the only man we are going to talk about here who is not mentioned in the projected schedule of Canada or in the extras. However, Athletics Note that “Canada will probably also bring Flames Prospect Henry Mews to play one of his Power Play if they lose a combination of Sam Dickinson, Zayne Parekh and Matthew Schaefer” (2026 World Juniors Roster projections: predicting line -ups for Canada, US, Sweden, Finland, Czech Republic, De Athletics, August 5, 2025).
The flames selected Mews in the Third round of the NHL input of 2024. He is a mobile offensive defender, making him the perfect candidate to fill in a power play and quarterback. Although from now on he is not in the projected line -up, it is hard to believe that none of Dickinson, Parekh and Schaefer will make the NHL this season, since they are all in the top six AthleticsThe top 100 set up prospect rankings.
Flames must be well represented on the international stage
The Flames with different players who are expected to be in the World Juniors from 2026 is an excellent sign for the organization. It shows that they had done a solid work to set up young talent, even though they only set up once in the top 10 since 2016 when they selected Matthew Tkachuk sixth in general.
Although these grilles are far from set, it will be interesting to follow and see which players can raise and strengthen their spots on the grilles of their respective countries in the coming months and can compete in the World Juniors, which are set for the typical start on Boxing Day, (December 26, 2025.)
