Evander Kane may not be done with the Edmonton Oilers yet. According to a message from the 2 Mutts podcast On X.com Kane – now a member of the Vancouver Canucks – recently spotted playing in a Summer Beer League match in Edmonton under the alias “FA AFO.” The report adds that Kane spends the low season in the city and that conversations about a possible return to the oilers have taken place quietly after his current contract ends.
To be clear, this rumor must be taken with some caution. Although the 2 Mutts podcast has had a number of accurate scoops in the past, they also missed others. Even they joke about their evolving insider reputation: “Are we now the official insiders of oilers in the city of Edmonton? Haha …”
How unlikely is an Evander Kane back to the oilers?
Kane’s return to Edmonton is technically possible. Perhaps there is even a chance that this is something that both parties will discuss at the Trade Deadline or next summer. He left on good terms, was very popular in the dressing room and made important contributions during his time as oil. Is it likely that he will come back? Probably not.
His trade in Vancouver was CAP-Drives, not on performance, but the CAP problems remain for the oilers. They have a huge contract extension with Connor McDavid to consider, deals for players such as Jake Walman, Mattias Ekholm and two goalkeepers to find out.
