Competition is an initiative of City of Moreton Bay and Unisc, designed to switch the growth of companies with high potential companies by bed in one of the fastest growing innovation ecosystems in Australia.
Million Dollar Opportunity
Mayor of the city of Moreton Bay Peter Flannery said that the chance was a game changer for entrepreneurs who were ready to scale up.
“These kinds of opportunities are not common, and the Council and the University proactively remove the financial handbrake to give an innovative scale company the opportunity to build, experiment and grow in City of Moreton Bay, the third largest local government in Australia by the population,” he said.
“Moreton Bay Central and City of Moreton Bay are in the heart of Southeast Queensland (SEQ), a fast-growing region that already brought 4.2 million people at home, with 1 in 6 Australians to call SEQ at home.”
The ultimate head office price package includes five years of rent-free space within a premium industrial strength facility, $ 250,000 for an adapted office fit, caretaker service from Innovate Moreton Bay and introduction to local company networks, academic world, academy and student talent.
UNISC VICE CHANNELIER and President, Professor Helen Bartlett, said that finding a company at the university campus offered various opportunities for industrial innovation and growth.
“Companies can use our community of researchers and educators while making contact with and promoting new graduates,” said Professor Bartlett.
“With the population of Moreton Bay as expected to 690,000 by 2041, Unisc will play a key role in supporting rapid development of the workforce by building the skills that companies need in important areas such as engineering, information and communication, early childhood and old care.”
Judgating Panel of Experts
Competition movements are assessed by an expert panel of judges of City or Moreton Bay, Unisc and Powerhouse partners, including BDO, Constant Contact, KL Gates, Telstra and Westpac, where every unique expertise, networks and resources entails to support the winning company.
Gus Balbontin, renowned futurist and investor, said that competition was an example of what is possible when government, education and industry come together to support entrepreneurs.
“I have worked with startups and upscaling around the world, and what they need the most is room to breathe and to build space. The ultimate head office offers both, plus access to talent, cooperation and lifestyle. It is a dream scenario for every company that is ready to make the leap,” Mr. Balbontin said.
Competition is open to, among other things, several sectors, including food and agribusiness, advanced production, innovation and sport, among other things.

Five finalists will visit City of Moreton Bay in February 2026 for an innovation safari, a series of a week of activities that immerse them in the business, lifestyle and innovation ecosystem of the area before they take a final pitch where the winner will be announced.
