Five clubs are on alert as Chelsea considers the sale of Liam Delap

Chelsea are considering letting Liam Delap leave the club this summer after a disappointing debut season.

Delap signed for Chelsea from relegated Ipswich Town last summer for a fee of £30 million. The 23-year-old scored 12 league goals for The Tractor Boys last season, but scored just one of 17 Premier League games for Chelsea.

Only nine of those appearances came from the start, with fellow summer signing Joao Pedro favored under both Liam Rosenior and former manager Enzo Maresca.

Injuries have also affected his debut season and Chelsea are now assessing his immediate future. Although a loan for next season is considered the most likely outcome, Caught offside claim permanent bids can also be evaluated.

Manchester United, who were keen to sign Delap last summer, remain interested in the former Manchester City academy graduate as the Red Devils seek competition for Benjamin Sesko.

Newcastle United also showed interest in Delap last summer, and the Magpies could look to sign a striker this summer amid the uncertainty surrounding Nick Woltemade. Everton, Brighton and Sunderland are also on red alert.
