Fantastic United and it ends Spurs 1 Newcastle 2

Spurs 1 Newcastle 2 – Tuesday 10 February 2026 7.30pm

A great effort in North London to lift the gloom.

As Supertramp asked in the 1970s: “Crisis, what crisis?”

Every man in blue and orange, even the late subs, contributed.

Newcastle United produced a dominant first half, with plenty of pass-and-move football that was sadly lacking, especially away from home.

It yielded just one goal for a Newcastle team who looked much better than Tottenham. Can we put the game to bed before we run out of gas?

Spurs improved after the break, eventually forcing Pope into a save as they had some success overloading our right flank.

The danger signs were there an hour later. Almost inevitably we gave in.

This time, however, we struck back almost immediately to regain the lead. Fresh legs were needed now that the seventy minutes were up. At the right time, Murphy replaced Elanga and Tonali replaced Ramsey.

A match that had been open from the start was stretched even further. Our passage lost its sharpness, we conceded possession and territory.

We camped in our half for the last 10 minutes. Fortunately, the Spurs were almost toothless. Willock and Gordon made way for Woltemade and Osula.

Bruno G went off in the 90th minute and Hall replaced him.

Six minutes of stoppage time seemed like an eternity. Hall could have gone for the jugular, but went for the corner and lost the ball.

In the 96th minute the only sound was the Toon Army as the home fans headed for the exit.

A third away win of the Premier League season. Newcastle United survived a bit of a siege in the second half but dug deep for a priceless three points.

The joy evident in Eddie Howe’s celebration with the traveling hordes spoke volumes.
