Sarfaraz Khan’s dazzling double hundred built on authority and intent
Sarfaraz reached his double century off just 206 balls, a rare blend of patience and aggression in red-ball cricket. It marked the fifth double century of his first-class career, a notable milestone that underlines his consistency at domestic level. Earlier in the innings, he brought up his 17th First-Class hundred – his first of the 2025-26 season – before switching gears emphatically.
Only since the 2019-2020 season Amandeep Khare And Anustup Majumdar has registered more Ranji Trophy centuries than Sarfaraz, a statistic that highlights his continued excellence. For Mumbai, the innings was a turning point, both in terms of momentum and morale.
Dominance against quality bowling attacks led by Mohammed Siraj
One of the defining passages of the innings was Sarfaraz’s fearless approach against the Indian teammate Mohammed Siraj. Known for his intensity and pace, Siraj was under relentless pressure as Sarfaraz plundered 45 runs from just 39 deliveries, showcasing daring strokeplay against quality fast bowling.
Sarfaraz was eventually dismissed for 227 off 219 balls after hitting 19 fours and nine sixes. His strike rate of 103.65 stood out in a format where such a scoring rate is rare, reflecting his modern, attacking mentality even in traditional conditions.
The glowing form of Sarfaraz in all formats
The double century is just the latest chapter in Sarfaraz’s sensational domestic season. Earlier in the campaign he lit the lamp Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025–26against which he smashed a blistering half-century from 15 balls Punjab-the fastest by an Indian in List A cricket. In doing so, he eclipsed the long-standing joint record of Abhijit Kale And Atit Shethboth of whom had reached fifty in 16 balls.
Sarfaraz finished that tournament as Mumbai’s highest run-scorer, with 303 runs in six innings at an average of 75.75 and a staggering strike rate of 190.56.
Although Sarfaraz last played for India in a Test against New Zealand in November 2024, his bat continued to speak loudly on the domestic circuit. He was Mumbai’s second highest run-getter in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025-2026scored 329 runs in seven matches at an average of 65.80 and a strike rate of over 200.
His form has not gone unnoticed. At the IPL 2026 auction, Sarfaraz was picked up by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at its base price of Rs. 75 lakh, adding a new dimension to their batting depth.

Why is Sarfaraz Khan not in the Indian team? I can’t think of a cricketing reason. He spent years racking up monstrous first-class scores, forcing his way into the Test team, scoring runs and being dropped for a string of non-scoring hopefuls. What’s going on? https://t.co/7jywIebdUQ
